will be there in 97 days and staying at the X as always so i'm like a kid at xmas this week with all this news

pool tables ???

The humorous part of the fact that they had 7 games last night and 6 games the night before (more than doubling the prior week when they were still electronic) is that the room has not promoted the re-launch AT ALL. AVP is the only website that has discussed and posted news about the exact re-opening date for the Excal. The only place that really hates the fact that Excal switched back is the LUXOR, since they are going to lose the large number of Excal hotel guests that would not play on the PTEK tables, and instead walked to Luxor or Manaday to play the game they see on TV.

Local Rock and Htown: Directly next to the poker room Excal took out a bunch of slots (behind the sports book) and replaced them with 4 pool tables ($2 per game) and shuffleboard. The cues and chalk are available from the 24 hour Keno lounge, but are supposed to move to the poker cashier soon.

The wife and I are degen pool players, so after playing some cards, we play pool. It is the most fun we have had in a casino in a LONG time. She loves the 2-4 game, and the 1/2 is profitable as hell, topped off with some billiards. Ship it!

Here is a picture of the pool tables, located about 10 feet from the poker room:

POOL TABLES! Nice touch. I have several avid --- not good, but avid --- pool players in my LV group. Pool tables might tempt them in. I wouldn't mind shooting a few games while in Las Vegas.

Hmmm.... I can't help but wonder if electronic pool tables might be better than real pool tables though.

That would be AUTOMATED Pool Tables, not electronic. :P

I think the 2-4 limit game at the Monte Carlo is going to suffer big time. They seemed to be profitting well from Excal's decision. Don't get me wrong, I like the MC, it's just there's only so much enjoyment you can have playing against a bunch of local nits grinding out the hours to qualify for a freeroll that you yourself won't be around to play 'cause you'll be back home by then.

I stopped in tonight and I have to say I was disappointed. I requested a table change and watched him write my name down on the paper list at the bottom. I was the only name down there. Then I watched him seat three new people at the other tables. When he sat the first guy down almost right behind me he even looked at me as if to acknowledge me so I just figured I would get the next seat. Nope. He sat two more new players within 5 or 10 minutes. No, I didn't make a stink about it. I shouldn't have to. It's their job, not mine. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Don't see myself going back. Too many other rooms in town.
In the depths of the mind insane.

I have to say the news of how the conversion back to regular tables has gone is great to me. The Excalibur poker room was always my favorite place to play and sounds like it is on it's way back to being what it used to be. I hope it will only get better. Bringing back the Aces cracked wheel spin will help as will other things that have already been mentioned.

I also thought the pool and shuffleboard tables were a great idea. I admit I never ended up playing on them, but that shuffleboard game is fun. I haven't seen one in a very long time but can fondly remember one of those being in a bar back in WI. It was always a good way to enjoy a good game with friends while consuming adult beverages.

I agree the Strip poker thing could go away. I am certainly no prude but it was just cheesy as hell and was really just a minor distraction to a very poorly structured tournament. I played in it the last time I was out there and honestly I didn't pay much attention to the gal while in the tourney and didn't pay any attention at all after I was busted and in a cash game. The only thing I paid attention to after busting out was some drunken dillhole who was standing around leering at the poor gal. It was really just a bit creepy. I don't think the Ex looses anything if they would drop this gimmick.

WTF, Why doesn't Mary have her stick?

Any info on tournaments would be great, as they become known. I'd like to see a good nightly one, around 8 or 9 pm.

Check back in a couple weeks for this. As for Mary, she said she's not allowed to have her stick because its unprofessional.
