Chicago area poker rooms

Postby cohenhs » Mon Apr 14, 2008 5:59 pm

What are the best poker rooms in or near Chicago that spread no-limit poker games (preferably $2-$5 NL)? How many tables do they generally have playing NL on the weekend and what are the limits and the rake structure. I'm considering a job in the area and won't move unless there is decent NL poker in the area. I have also heard there is a really big poker room opening in Hammond this summer, any update would be appreciated.

Thanks
Harvey

I have played at Majestic Star & Potawanami. Majestic tends to have more nl games going, both 1/2 and 2/5. Potawanami has a lot of limit games but only spreads 2/5nl. I wouldn't say either room is great. Majestic is so humid and the chips are so dirty you can literally pick up 5 to 10 chips by having them stick together. I thought Potawanami kind of smelled. Also, given the limited amount of poker, especially, nl in the area the players present as more solid overall then your typical IP, Excal, tourist crowd. Personally, I don't think this is such a bad thing and each session has been positive for me (only 8 sessions it total) however I wouldn't consider Chicaoland a great nl location. I know others on here will have played much more often. Either way, good luck with the new job.

A bit late but I can add that Hollywood Casino in Aurora, Illinois has both tournaments (Wed and Sun) and live poker.

"Get ready to ante up for the best in Live Poker at Hollywood Casino. The Poker Room is designed with you in mind and dedicated to Poker players who love the game. It features a variety of structured Texas Hold 'em games. On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday Hollywood offers $20/$40 Texas Hold 'Em. Our professional Poker Room staff will help you get into the game you want and are there to serve you throughout your stay. For Poker Room information call 630-801-7471. "

Edit - after checking their site it looks like the Sun tourny is gone. However they have SNG for $90

"Wednesday Texas Hold'em No Limit Poker Tournaments

Edit #2 - Damn their website is confusing. "Texas Hold'Em Cash Game

New! Hollywood presents the Sunday No Limit Texas Hold'Em Feature Cash Game. Buy-in $100 to $500 with $2 & $5 blinds. For details visit or call the Poker Room at 630-801-7471.

An update for the forum. The new Horseshoe in Hammond is now open with 34 Poker tables. Games spread are 1-2,2-5, 5-10 nl on a regualr basis with 10-25 and higher when we have available players. Limit holdem is 3-6, 6-12,10-20, 20-40, and higher when players allow. Also we will spread 2-5PLO,5-10 Omaha 8 or better, and 1-5 stud when available. HOSE and mixed have also been spread going anywhere from 10-20 to 50-100 when the players are available. The tourney schedule will be out next week hopefully announcing our weekly tournaments as well as the only Chicago area WSOP circuit event in late October/early November. This is a truly beatiful room so come check it out.
