BP Gaming Entertainment, the U.S.-based entity that represents online gaming operator bwin.party, has a license in both Nevada and New Jersey. Partypoker is one of its most recognizable poker brands.
BP Gaming's parent company, bwin.party, is the result of a merger between Austria-based sportsbook bwin and UK-based online poker site PartyGaming on March 31, 2011, which made it the world's largest publicly traded online gaming company. Partypoker was once the No. 1 most-trafficked online poker site in the world, but its numbers understandably plummeted when it voluntarily shut its virtual doors to U.S. players following the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in 2006. However, the fact that they left the U.S. market, combined with a $105 million settlement they made with the U.S. government as part of a "non-prosecution agreement" made it able to pursue gaming licenses in Nevada and New Jersey.
Interactive Gaming Partners
bwin.party has partnered with both MGM Resorts International and Boyd Entertainment on Oct. 31, 2011. The result was the eventual formation of BP Gaming Entertainment. MGM holds a 25% stake in that company, Boyd has 10%, and bwin.party owns the majority stake with the remaining 65%. The partnership will result in a network of poker clients skinned to reflect each company's various brands.
In the case of New Jersey online poker, bwin.party is working with two brands: Party and Borgata. Partypoker has its own branded poker application with its own unique promotions, though it shares a player pool with Borgata Poker.
The PartyPoker software is similar to the software used on the international version, and it's tile-based user interface is designed to be new player friendly. Players can play multiple tables simultaneously, can resize tables, and can choose felt colors and four color decks. Players have the advantage of software that's been refined over many years.
PartyPoker New Jersey has grown in traffic steadily in the days since launch. Any numbers posted here would likely be eclipsed the following day. The site hasn't hit anywhere near its peak yet.
PartyPoker offers limit hold'em cash games at stakes ranging from $0.02-0.04 to $30-60, and no-limit hold'em from $0.05-0.10 to $25-50. Tables are offered in 2-handed, 6-handed, 9-handed and 10-handed varieties. The site offers Omaha, Pot Limit Omaha, Omaha 8/b, and Pot Limit Omaha 8/b as well.
For sit-and-gos, players can find tables with buy-ins as low as $0.10 and as high as $2,000, and 10-handed, 9-handed, six-max, and heads-up formats.
The scheduled tournament offerings include qualifiers for New Jersey's Next Poker Millionaire, a February live eight-person invitational at the Borgata. You can also qualify for the WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open in January 2014. Regular tournaments include a daily $10K guaranteed and a Sunday $50K Guaranteed.
PartyPoker gives plenty of options for player support, including Web form, support e-mail address, and even a phone number. Players can deposit via online bank transfer, Visa or Mastercard. For withdrawals, players have Skrill and e-checks, but can also pick up their money at the Borgata Hotel Resort & Casino cashier, also known as the Borgata cage.

It's exciting to think of the action that could be stirred up by drawing the mixed-martial-arts crowd to the poker world. The traffic is a bit slow for now, although this issue will probably become less of a problem if/when other states join Nevada's player liquidity. As far as the software is concerned, there's not yet a Mac version of the client, hand histories aren't easily obtained, and you cannot write notes for a player within the software. However, considering this is the first legal U.S. entry into online poker, the software is polished and fast, the graphics are crisp, and everything is intuitive.
PartyPoker and borgatapoker, with their combined player pool, will be one to watch for New Jersey legal online poker. They're both strong brands and will be offering great tournaments, great promotions and great customer support.
PartyPoker has launched an excellent first offering for legal U.S. online poker. Depositing is easy, the software is easy to use, and players can jump right in.
PartyPoker uses a gamified system of rewards called missons and achievements. Missions are a series of goals that you get for trying new things around the site. There are great rewards for completing missions. Achievements are badges you earn for accomplishing things during play. These achievements are visible in your profile.
PartyPoker also has a loyalty points program. As you play, you earn points and can move up through different key levels. You earn 2 points for every $1 spent in tournament fees and rake. These points can be spent on many different things in the store.
