My son and i come to LV in January every year from Canada to play golf and limit Hold-em. Last winter, we could find only 4-8 games at the Bellagio and Venetian.

Has anything changed in that regard?

Thanks

  1. @robvegaspoker Simple question, "they used to spread 4-8 regularly", what does spread mean in that sense? Fill up tables?

  2. @robvegaspoker Thanks! That's what I was gathering but wanted to make sure.

  3. @robvegaspoker Thanks! That's what I was gathering but wanted to make sure. Also, what is up with weird blind structures? What's the thought process from the BB not just being double the SB?

  4. @robvegaspoker I did indeed think that that means $2 SB and $6 BB, but how about 1/3 games? That means $1SB and $3BB, right? So I would consider that the weird I was talking about, but thanks for the info on the other definition of spread! What would be the blinds in 2-6 spread then?

  5. Bellagio and Venetian have a reliable 4-8. It's very rare to find that at Wynn anymore.

The games at Bellagio and Venetian have a half kill so you would be playing a small number of pots that are 6-12. I once tried the 3-6 at Mirage in the summer and it felt much smaller to me because of that.

  6. @Steve007 Thanks to all for the information. I have always been a 7 card stud player and was never a Hold-em fan. I still love playing poker and have learned the 4-8 game.
I was in Laughlin last year and played 3 to 6 with a full kill which they spread daily at Harrahs. Now that was a fun afternoon.
    Thanks again.

  7. This make me remember the days, too many years ago, that I started playing poker. Being from Maryland originally, I used to go to Atlantic City when the casinos first opened. No hold 'em there then. All 7-stud. When I moved to Ohio, and Indiana opened the riverboats, would play 20-40 stud and watch hold 'em. My first hold 'em experience was 4-8, then 6-12 limit. Ventured into no limit much later. Still love a good limit game, as I think there is money to be won in limit poker. I am talking 25 years... Yes, I am flippin' old...

Great to hear about your poker playing days. I have always maintained that Bridge is the second best card game ever.

In circa 1985, my buddy and I went to Reno from our home in Victoria BC and got into a game of 7 Hi LO at the CalNeva. We sat down at noon on Sat and left the game at 6am Sunday am. Many playlers came and went and most left some money for us. The structure was 1 to 5 anytime. Our wives dragged us out of there to catch our 10am flight home.

The trip was paid in full.

I remember those days, too!! The days I had the stamina of youth to play forever, it seemed. Like you, I remember the marathon sessions that I would put in and just play. I am 50 now (November 6, ugh...), and always lament to my poker friends that I can't play the same amount of time at a sitting that I used to. Body just will not allow it.

Your story also reminds me of those special days I would go to the table and become the table General. In AC at the Tropicana, in the 90's, in a 5-10 7-stud game. Many people at the table were bussed in day trippers from Philadelphia. I was making all the right plays and being rewarded every time. It got to the point that when I was showing and ace up, I would just raise and take the pot. Sat with $200, left with $900 after 3 hours or so. The real reward came as I racked up and was leaving. I had gotten out of my chair, and was headed for the cashier. I had to wait a few as the room was crowded with people milling about. I overheard a player tell the dealer, "That guy was really good." The dealer replied, "He's very good." Never forgot that...

Yes, have had days where time didn't matter and it wasn't until I got back to the room that I realized just how much time had actually passed. Also remember sleeping for 12-14 hours after playing for a day and a half!!

  10. To add to what Rob said, Green Valley Ranch has $2-4 limit regularly and will usually have a $3-6-9 limit game, which is $3-6 limit with $9 to bet and raise on the river. They used to run a $4-8 game but when they switched to $3-6-9, that one largely vanished.

  11. @Dap Poker Thanks so much for the input. We very much enjoyed playing 4-8 at Bellagio and could just stay there for the whole time. Just trying to get a feel for what's happening now. I have had some success at NL tournament play so I might do that too while we are there........and can't rule out a NL cash game.

    Thanks again,
