I recently visited Mount Airy Casino in Pennslyvania, which is the closest casino to my house (short of our online casinos here in NJ). It's a small casino and an even smaller poker room, but ideal for a quick fix to the itch and driving there from Bergen County, NJ is a straight shot out Rt. 80. The poker room follows the rest of the casino in that it's quite small. It's located in the "second floor" casino area which is really like the third floor. You practically are in the poker room when you step off the elevator and there are just a handful of tables. That said, they actually had a mix of games going and while there were open seats, the tables were busy. This allowed for some choice with little wait time. I joined a 2-4 no limit game. The crowd was a mix of day trippers and solid regulars that probably stop by on their way home from work fairly often - at least it sounded that way based on some of the table banter. Either way, their play was certainly good so don't underestimtate. We stayed a few hours and didn't make much money. After leaving the poker room we went in the main casino and played around on the slots for a bit. There was a nice center bar in the middle of the property where we got a drink. We then grabbed a buffet and headed back home. The property itself is well done. The hotel which we wondered over to has a modern look and feel. Reminded me a little bit of the color scheme in a Mariott hotel. There is a diner as well as a snack bar you can eat at as well and i believe a steak house. Golf is also on site and there is a spa so we are thinking about an overnight some time soon too. I would recommend going for a day and checking it out and if you are passing by, it is about 5 minutes off the highway, maybe less, so you can easily stop when passing through. Parking was easy as it's all surface parking.

  1. Do you ever play online in NJ? How has the action been lately?

  2. @GameChanger I haven't really played online in NJ. I had tried a few times to add $ to an account but it was such a hassel I said forget it. I prefer live games anyway and play with friends often.
