Rough beat

Hey everyone! I wanted to share the hand I was in at a 1-2 no limit hold'em table inside a charity poker room.

Not my normal scene however my buddy and I wanted to go try out the tournament action so I said what the hell let's do it.

After getting knocked out of the tournament I decided I would play some cash while I waited for my friend to finish his tournament.

I bought in with $100 and sat down at the table. After playing for a while I had my stack up to about $450...then it happened.

I was sitting on the button and decided not to straddle. Cards got dealt and I woke up with KQ of hearts. As the blinds made their way around to me I threw out a raise to $22. Two people called and we saw a flop.

Much to my joy, the flop was A54 all hearts. First to act bets $80, second guy pushes for about $600. I looked down at my hand and called. I didn't snap call because I was hoping hesitating would get the other guy to call as well. He did. The pot grew to about $1,500. I flipped over my nut flush, guy to my left flipped over 5 of diamonds and 2 of hearts. The person on my right flipped over 10 6 of hearts.

At this point the picture was clear to me. All I had to do was dodge the 3 of hearts and would be collecting the pot. What was really surprising to me was that the guy called a $25 pre flop raise with a hand like that.

After everyone at the table calmed down, we came to the turn. Sure enough, it was the 3 of hearts. I can't tell you what the river was because I was so disgusted I walked out.

My question to you all is what could I have done differently in this hand? Did I play it wrong at any point? Please share your thoughts. Can't wait to hear from everyone.

  1. You raised the blind by $20. If I had 10 6 suited or 5 2 unsuited, I'd folded pre flop. You just were unlucky! The person that called with 5 2 off was just lucky.

  2. Who was dealing ?

  3. @Gamin The charity room had their own staff of dealers. Funny thing is the dealer's tip jar was empty when he sat down haha

  4. Fold on the flop. Just kidding. You got all you money in with the nuts. Even if you saw the 3h on the turn you should still be getting the money in. Should not even be second guessing.

The 52o actually had about 7.6% chance to win. While small, it's not impossible for him to hit the 3h or runner-runner 5-5 or 2-2.

  5. Hella tough beat. I can't believe you raises $22 pre and still got all them to call. Nothing you can do about that one. You made all the right decisions. Just the way poker goes sometimes.

  6. several things you could have done.. Walked away after almost quadrupling your buy-in, not sat down at a 1-2 table, or sat there and taken your bad beat to the river like a man. It's a game of poker not certainty, and you played flawless. Shit happens..
