I arrived at Binions on friday afternoon 05/04 for the Amateur Poker Tour $175,000 minimum tournament.I won a package at one of the local denver tournaments that included airfare, hotel and buy-in.Checked into the room, old, but ok for a poker weekend. Then went down to the poker desk to inquire about the registration process for the 6:00 PM toutnament, and low and behold was told the tounament had been canceled due to problems with the APT company.Rumors had it was something to do with licensing/capital requirements.Binions had NOTHING to do with any of the problems, they were just hosting the event.Binions did run a tournament that night $440 buy-in with about 80 people, I was lucky enough to finish in the money. I must say the dealers for most of the night were horrible, I have never seen so many filpped cards, misdeals, etc. I had a feeling they brought in a lot of new dealers for the tourney and they were very inexperienced. When we made it to the final table all the dealers were very good.Played some live action there also, found the locals to be very friendly and poker room well run, of course they do neeed to invest in some technolgy, like a computer, so the waiting list is not kept on a liitle sheet of paper,( what a joke that is, lol )I also played in the 2:00 AM tourney, finished in the money. A nice touch they hold the final table on a featured table with eye cameras, so all us wannable be poker players can imagine what is like to be there for a major tourney. My overall opinion of Binions room is they are trying to make an old outdated room into something you would want to play at, but come-on, invest a little money into a computerized sign up system. I also played in the Venetian $550 noon tournament, this is top-shelf, $10,000 starting chips 40 minute blinds and a great overall structure. I was lucky enough to make it to the final table and finish barely in the money. I felt for the bubble person because all but one a-hole agreed to holdout enough from their winnings to play the bubble his enter fee back. Of couse if not all then no deal.IMHO this is the best tournament and poker room in Vegas, everything about it is first class, highly recommend it if you can afford the buy-in.Also played in the Caesars Sunday noon touney $130 rebuy.I was a liitle disappointed in the all-in fest it becomes in the later rounds, or maybe it was because I need not make the final table (lol)Anyway a great tournament room (the live 1-3NL table was freezing).Overall a very good weekend of poker and will play the Venetian any chance I get. I should also mention I have heard that the APT is making good all monies owed to the players who paid to play. Hopefully they can recover from this potenial disaster.

    No this is typical Binions.

so the waiting list is not kept on a liitle sheet of paper,( what a joke that is, lol )
don't know why people think this is a big deal. Up until a few years ago this was how it was always done. If you are getting a computer solely to maintain the list, I think you are wasting your money.

  2. am I glad I didnt fly out for this I almost did. I have a conference out there in a couple weeks so I didnt. I wonder how many got a $250 airfare and hotel package and then didnt have to play in the tourney

The only thing a computer list does is show you where you are in line. nothing more. Is it nice? Sure. Does it make me not play a room? Nope. Wait is the same if I can see it or not. Sometimes it is better not to see it whn you are 20 deep

  3. When they cannot keep track of who has the "list" or who should be crossed off the "list" it looks like amateur night.

I've seen places with the computer list forget to take names off the list. If the people are disorganized they will screw it up whether its a written list or computer list.

  5. Just one thing in favor of computerized lists ...

My very first time in a casino card room I was a bit nervous about approaching the desk. Having a display up which could tell me at a glance what games were running, if there were seats, etc made all the difference.

  6. that's coz your a state college baby!!! lol just kidding...

seriously though having the old board is definitely not cheap, it's classic. I remember coming into the taj on an early monday morning and just putting myself on the board and maybe another name hoping to try and get a game called...the pc boards are nice but that's just eye candy. as long as the cards are good quality(why does no one mention this?) the chips are clay and the dealers are running a fast tight ship everything else is just peachy.
