Biggest $4/8 Cash Ever!

One of my friends just finished taking a big 3 day professional exam yesterday, so to celebrate we went to Wynn for some low limit $4/8 poker action. We each bought in for $200 with the intent of getting annihilated and donking it up in style.

I donked it up alright.

I started out the session on fire. Within the first 45 minutes I was up more than $150 after scooping a couple of decent pots with monster hands like a flopped boat and two flopped sets.

My buddy was quickly up close to $100 really fast also, and after our third or fourth cocktail we took a quick break (the drinks were coming fast, and we were ordering doubles, of course).

When we returned from our break we set a nice tone for the table when we both decided to play our hands to the river in the dark. In a five way hand we capped pre-flop and on the flop (still in the dark of course), and eventually bet out the other players who couldn't handle the action, particularly since we didn't even know what we were holding...

There's isn't much more dangerous than two reckless poker players capping flops in the dark. I eventually scooped that pot, when I turned over my hand to reveal a welcome surprise of JJ, for a rivered set of jacks.

To add insult to injury, my buddy turned over his cards to reveal AK, with top pair made on the flop. The funny thing is we probably wouldn't have played the hand much differently even if we had known what our cards were.

The drinks kept coming and so did the pots. About four hours into our session I was up more than $500. We joked that if I continued to run as hot as I was running I could conceivably make $1,000 at a $4/8 LIMIT table... which we both thought was practically impossible in one session.

Well, the pots did keep coming, and I ran the hottest I have ever run in my life at a poker table. I don't think I missed a flush draw the entire night. I don't think I got sucked out on either. It seemed like if I was in a pot, I won it.

By 3 AM, around seven hours into the session, I had done the impossible. I counted 30 stacks of chips (each stack 40 chips tall). That is $1,200 in one dollar blue chips. I was up $1,000.

Unbelievable! I've played thousands of hours of $4/8 poker, and I've never seen someone leave a $4/8 table up more than $600 or $800 in one session (at the absolute max).

I finished the night up exactly $1,019. What a night!

And my friend? He eventually got felted, of course.

  1. The stacks were definitely large and lovely...

  2. The action @ the wynn is the most difficult i played ( equal to bellagio).. The uncapped buy-in draws some tough action.... Although i cant prove it, I think there are a few teams at a few tables.. A trick I saw from a player next to me- He had a large stack , then a few bills behind, and bills in a open check style wallet- Are the bills in the checkbook in play???? I gues he can decide.. all the dealers knew him, so I didnt want to bring up any trouble..

  3. Geez. And I feel good when I'm up $100 in a 3/6 game...

Damn, I thought my $530 or so in five hours at 3/6 was pretty good. On the bright side I'll be playing the 4/8 at the Wynn on Sunday night after I take in Spamalot, so I hope you left a few fish in the tank. I don't need big fish, just a few guppies so I finish in the black...

  5. That is a great story  Congratulations...and I hope the luck keeps shining down...uhh...well...unless I'm at your table.

Seriosuly though, I love playing LLHE and ordering boatloads of cocktails. That is what LLHE was made for

  6. 1k at a 4/8 game? Who do I have to kill or sleep with to have the same experience?...LOL. I trust you bought lots of drinks for the other players and tipped the dealers well...

  7. It is refreshing to hear a positive poker story with no "suck outs". It's amazing how EVERY poker player ever gets sucked out on EVERYTIME!

I'm not saying this goes on in these forums (i REALLY enjoy reading the stories of people's trips, very entertaining), but sitting and listening to people at poker tables and such, it's amzing how much everyone complains about getting sucked out on everytime and such.

I was at a table today where a guy got rivered by the same player twice in a relatively quick span, and he made comments for the next hour (in a negative tone) anytime he was in a pot with him going into the river. He acted like he had gotten the rawest deal of all time. However, when that man himself would river someone, it was all honkey dory and good poker playing ("i knew that third 4 would hit!").

Someone could river the entire table on three straight hands, but they take one tough beat, and that's all you'll hear about.

I guess Mike McD was right: ""Few players recall big pots they have won, strange as it seems, but every player can remember with remarkable accuracy the outstanding tough beats of his career." (i swear i try not to quote rounders too often, but sometimes, it's unavoidable)

  8. I had bought into the 4/8 game for $100. Played around for about 3 hours up and down. Was down to about $60 when I could not do anything wrong. I was winning pots with little pairs like 5's. We were playing half kill and I held the kill button for 4 hands. Anyhow I had like 500 dollar chips in front of me and the floor changed them into $5's. Quit with over $500 after about a half hour. Amazing.
