Dear MGM Poker Room: You Rock!
The MGM poker room management really goes the extra mile to make low-limit poker players happy. Last week they hosted the unofficial 2+2 poker-bash, and tonight they actually spread $2/$4 Crazy Pineapple for a table full of low-limit maniacs.
I had the best intentions tonight. You see, I’m supposed to be studying for this little “accountability exercise” (a.k.a. the Nevada Bar Exam) coming up in July. So, I sat down at a low-limit $2/$4 Hold’em table with my mp3 player so I could listen to a Constitutional-Law lecture. Unfortunately for my career goals, I didn’t do much listening. But, I did have a hell of a fun night.
For a short time, I was doing pretty well, listening to the boring law lecture on my mp3 player. But then, after about an hour, six Bally’s poker dealers sat down at my table. I knew I was in trouble when they ordered a round of Jäger-shots for the whole table. These guys had just gotten off work, and they wanted to play some "donkey poker" (the Bally’s poker room btw is known for its super-speedy cocktail service). Not long after they sat down, the whole table was petitioning the MGM poker floor-man to spread Crazy Pineapple at our table.
If you don’t already know, Crazy Pineapple is a ridiculous poker game. It is a variation of Texas Hold’em, where each player is dealt three hole-cards pre-flop. After the betting on the flop, each player must discard a card. It’s a really fun poker game, but very few Vegas poker rooms spread it regularly (only Sam’s Town comes to mind).
Tonight, the MGM poker room management went out of their way to spread what we wanted to play. The problem was that all poker tables in Vegas are required by law to post the type of poker game at each table. Ordinarily, the poker tables have little brass place-cards that say things like “$2/$4 Texas Hold’em”, but most poker rooms don’t have pre-printed place-cards for a rare game like Crazy Pineapple.
Despite this deficiency, the MGM poker room management accommodated our request. How did they do it? They improvised! They took out a black magic marker, and a white piece of paper, and they made their own Crazy Pineapple place-card right there on the spot. They slid the paper into the slot at the table, and before I knew it, I was looking down at three hole-cards, playing Crazy Pineappple.
The action was crazy! I raised at least 30% of my hands in the dark. Amazingly, I hit some unbelievable flops and flush draws. I was totally on fire! By the end of the night, I walked away from the poker table up $249. That’s a pretty remarkable haul at a $2/$4 table.
It was great playing Crazy Pineapple with the Bally’s poker dealers. It was great playing like a maniac. And, it was great to walk away from that table +$249.
Thanks for a fun night, MGM! Nights like tonight are the reason the MGM Grand poker room is the top-rated poker room at All Vegas Poker.
