First time in Vegas
First, I'd like to express my thanks to the creators of this website. It really helped me decide where to play on my trip to Vegas.
My wife and I went to a wedding in Sedona, AZ. What better way to get there than via Las Vegas, Nevada? We arrived on a Thursday...we spent most of the evening taking in The Strip. We stayed at The Orleans, as they had a really good rate. I played at the Orleans that night, as I wasn't really up to a solo trip to The Strip on our first night.
The Orleans has a nice poker area. But, unfortunately, they action disappeared by about 1am. There was only one table each of 4-8 hold'em, 10-20 hold'em, and 5-10 omaha. I was pretty even for most of the night, until I had a big blind hand of 10-7. The flop was 10-10-6. Nevermind, I lost the max, as my opponent flopped 6's full. Lost $100.
We left for AZ on Friday. I won't go into too much detail, but the Cliff's Castle Indian Casino near Sedona has a great 4-8 game. I made quads twice, 6's and J's. Won $256 for the night.
We returned to Las Vegas on Sunday. I played 6-12 at the Mirage. Pretty good action. The table was really fun, lot's of limping, raising, and drawing. Everyone was good-natured about everything. I was stuck about $300, after this very pretty young thing beat AA and a set of J's. I got winner on a blind-capped pot (both pre-flop and flop) with AQ. It was a good time.
The best action was, by far, at the Excaliber. At least for the low-limit player. Really good 2-6 spread limit game. This was Monday night, by the way. About 10-12 tables full, never an empty seat for long. They have hot food available for the players, and a great TV set-up. Unfortunately, though, everyone was cheering for the Eagles, and I felt like the lone Cowboy fan! I was minus $65, but I feel like I could've come out ahead had I been able to stay longer (had to catch my flight)
My next trip will start at the Excaliber. I hope to check out the Bellagio next time, just to say I played some cards there.
Never go all in!
Dave
