Having never played live limit, I followed the reviews and we started out at Excalibur. The daily lesson is at 2pm. They suggest you get there a little early to be sure to get a seat. The game there is spread limit 1-3 and it is really a little wierd at first. There were a bunch of guys from Australia a couple from Texas and a very nice little old lady from Vegas.

Basically, they give you a hand-out that explains rules of the casino that I thought everyone would already know - no string bet etc.. and it had some basic hold'em tips like that ace 3 offsuit is really not the best hand. The dealer then walks you through a couple of hands with play chips. He explains how the betting works with one blind and betting/raising 1-3. It takes some getting used to.
After a few hands with fake chips they bring over real chips and everyone buys in for $20. The play was generaly what you would expect. people played questionable offsuit hands and it was mostly 4 or 5 to a flop. a raise of 3 pre flop folded everyone out.
The funniest thing was that very nice little old lady. She had the hardest time remembering that you could just check or how to bet or really what what going on at all... until she slow played AK from late position and suddenly learned how to bet 3 when it got checked to her. As she left the table she confessed that this was the third lesson she had had. I think she may be starting to get the hang of it.
Everyone was friendly and the drink service was great. The play was pretty slow but to be expected. Lots of fun but look out for a little old lady named Avis.
