Labor Day Weekend Poker

Family and I went to Vegas for the Labor Day weekend. Per usual, I spent a fair amount of my gambling time at the poker tables.

Since I was staying at the Flamingo, I decided, against my better judgement, to sit in their $2/$4 Limit game. So what is that old saying? The definition of stupidity is continually doing the exact same thing over and over always hoping for different results? $2/$4 is just brutal poker to try and win money unless you happen to have the stars align. I will never begrudge any player his/her decisions to play the cards they want to play but the beats at this limit level are just ugly.

The room itself isn't horrible and the drink service seemed to be about average but I lost money at this table by some beats that were almost impossible to dream up let alone actually occur.

My goal for this trip was to make the next step up in limits from where I had been playing for about the past year which was $4/$8 Limit. Based on the discussion on the forums here, I opted for the Caesars $6/$12 game on Saturday night. I have nothing to compare it to for that Limit but I gotta say, the table I was at was very soft for such a "high" level. In many ways, some of the players there played as if they were at $2/$4. I found that tight aggressive play was profitable and found my run at this particular table to be lucrative. Raises are respected alot more for the most part however this table had alot of callingh stations who would call down some strange hands even in the face of strength.

The table broke up about 2 hours after I had sat down however. One of the dealers there said Caesars has a very hard time keeping a $6/$12 game going there and he suggested the perception of the Caesars room is that it is a no-limit room only and thus the $6/$12 and up go elsewhere for their games.

Great trip and overall profitable. I will return to Caesars again in hopes of finding $6/$12 being spread and plan to check out the V next time.

Thanks to AllVegasPoker for the wealth of info you provide.
