Layover Poker - Flight Attendant's Eye View
Ususally fly in around 10:30am, quick change and am at the table at the Venetian for their 12pm tourney, nice set up, super friendly staff, comfy room, big chairs, dealers mess up occassionaly, room is never really crowded. This is a great daily tourney to get you started, a mix of locals and business people, not too many hot shots. I have made it to the final table 2 out of the 3 times I have played here, fairly easy playing, mostly everyone plays tight aggressive, I have bluffed my way to the final 4 with about 12 all-ins in the last hour, came in 4th and won some nice change.
Next stop Harrah's, they have great daily tourneys that run about every 2 hours and are jammed packed. Don't go here if you are looking for luxury, there isn't anything comfy about it. The staff is great, dealers are very good and the action is awesome! Everyone is here, from your grandpa to your younger college brother!I played very loose here and met some nice people, busted out early in the tourney, its easy to make some cash here but you have to really concentrate, there are great players here of all ages! Women players are very serious here. Side note: the cocktail girls are not attractive, go outside for some great music and drinks.
At this point I usually head over to MGM and play 1/2NL for the rest of the night. MGM is awesome, alittle noisy and dark but the staff is great, dealers are the best, massage person is always there, they have food service right to your table, your comp card is run through their system as soon as you sit down, they have non-stop tourneys and sit and go's. There is a mix of locals, tourist and people who just don't know what they are doing with all the bling to make you smile. I have won 1000.'s here! I have had trips to their mid pair, full house to their 2 pair, flush's to their straights, and they just keep taking out thier wallets!I love it here! The mix is usually young hot shots to older business men. The young guys always leave early when thier cash is low and because their girlfriends are hanging on their shoulders. The business guys like to hang around, this is the ultimate donkey santuary! The best time to play here is a Sunday night when everyone has to catch the all nighters home and they are trying to make their last buck.
Sometimes I like to mix it up and play cash at the Luxor, super nice staff, comfortable room. On my right played next to one of the staff writers of Card Payer, super nerd very aggressive, we traded money back and forth, on my left a nice chap from BA , very tight, the rest of the players were funny and some stuck-up locals. The limits are low here so great place to play but can't win that much money.
Paris is another great spot that I found for afternoon tourney's. There are alot of downsides to this poker room, staff and dealers are not all that friendly, especially the check in lady. The room is in the middle of the casino so it is loud and obnoxious. The people that play here are mostly tourist and have all been really nice, met some great players. Made the final table and busted out on the bubble but had a few guys stand up to say goodbye and to comment on my great playing...blushing...why do they feel the need to do that??? Thanks, you were great too! Cash is mostly limit.
Mirage is a tough crowd, alot of locals, strange people and old timers. Staff is so-so, room is great and comfy. 1/2NL tables have great action. Their limit tables are a mix of wheel chair people that want to pass the time away and tourist.
I will be checking out Wynn and Bellagio next with all my MGM winnings!! See you in the air!
