Locals will drive you crazy
Arrived on a Sunday, staying downtown at the Plaza for the first three nights. Played 2/4 Sunday night at the Plaza, no other games going except 1-4 stud. Notable hand was having my nut flush slam dunked by quad 9's.
Monday morning played in the Goldent Nugget's daily tourny. The first hour is limit and then goes to no limit after that. Won one very nice pot in the first hour, stole a few blinds also. Ended up finishing 8th for $176.
Moved to the Monte Carlo on Wednesday, started off playing 2/4 until a 4/8 game started. Couldn't catch a hand for about an hour then finally looked down at pocket queens. Flop brought another and luckily I have this local hotshot betting into me. River brings the fourth queen, so after the betting is done I turn em up and innocently query "That's a jackpot hand, right?". Four queens paid $384, plus a pretty nice pot.
My memorable hand at the Monte Carlo pretty much sums up low limit poker in Vegas where locals play and jackpots are in effect. Looked down at pocket kings and raised to 8 pre-flop. Had one or two callers. Flop brought rags, along with the turn and river, this should have been my hand, except for the guy who came in with a suited 4-5 under the gun and caught two pair. His comment "It was a potential jackpot hand, I always play those".
Played 3/6 Thursday at the Aladdin, was very impressed with this room, tables are a little cramped being close together, but very nice. Ended up catching four queens here also paying $65 plus a mediocre pot.
One more thing, if you play and win a jackpot hand, tip your dealer if they are somewhat worth it. At the Aladdin we watched as this jerk caught four 6's for the jackpot of about $135 and tipped the dealer THREE BUCKS! Needless to say, Mr Big Bucks was the talk of the table for awhile after that, hell I tipped $10 when I won $65. I think most of the dealers do a great job and put up with a lot of crap and deserve the tips.
