Mandalay and MGM - My choice for low limit
Was in Vegas for 48 hours and probably spent half of that playing poker. Here is the rundown:
Arrived at the hotel at about 11 PM. Stayed at Harrahs because it was cheap and somewhat conviently located. Overall the room was decent enough but the pillows were uncomfortable.
After we checked it we headed over to the Mirage for some 3-6. Played for about 4 hours and cashed out up $11 whole dollars. Pretty tight game where I was never up or down too much. This has been my general expereince with the Mirage. Very good poker room but the quality of players is higher than most places.
Woke up at noon and went down to Barbary Coast for the $12.99 T-bone special. OK steak. I guess you get what you pay for. After that we headed down to Mandalay Bay for some 4-8 with a half kill and 1-2 blinds. I couldn't catch any decent cards at all and ended up dropping $200 after a few hours. My friend hit a straight flush and got $550 for a high hand bonus and there were two people with quad 8s while I was there also. Overall I like the Mandalay poker room. The high hand bonuses are nice and the coctail waitresses are some of the best lookers you will find. Luckily I won my money back playing blackjack while my friend finished up playing poker.
After that we headed to MGM to check out their poker room. This is a great room and it is a place you should definitly play. I played 1-2 NL. This was my first NL experience (other than a few tournaments) so it took some getting used to. I planned on just playing super tight for a couple orbits to get a feel for the game but the first 3 hands I was dealt were J-J, A-Q suited, and 10-10 so I had to play those. I played for about 3 hours and twice got my flopped full house beat by a higer full house. Down another $200.
The next day we decided to check out the 1-2 NL game at the Alladin and I was underwhelmed. The staff was fine but the room overall is pretty plain. I only had 5 or 6 people at my table and the only hand I caught at all was a flopped straight. One guy bet into me and I put him all in and he called. Turns out we were holding the same hand for a split pot. The fresh cookies were about the only positive thing about this room
Back to the MGM to finish out the trip. Play 1-2 NL again and this time I end up winning which was a nice way to finish off the trip. Within about an hour one guy at our table flopped an A-5 straight flush (got 2 callers all-in who both had high flushes) and another guy got a Royal Flush.
Bottom line: Alladin probably isn't worth a visit, Mirage is tight with good quality players, Mandalay is good because of the high hand bonuses and lower quality players, and the MGM is probably the best room for low limit players.
