Memorial Day Weekend Turnaround Trip NL cash games
Was going to make the trip with a friend, but he blew out at the last minute so the wife came along (poker hours logged went down obviously). Rolled into town and hung out with the wife for a little bit until the poker itch got too intense, had to scratch it. We had tickets for the show Le Reve at the Wynn at 7:30(the show was amazing, as was the stage, worth the price of admission). Decided to play 1-3 NL at the Wynn for a few hours before the show while the wife shopped at Fashion Show. I have to say I wll not be playing the 1-3 NL at the Wynn again because they use these stupid $3 chips for some reason I will never know. Nobody including the dealers really knows how much is bet at first glance. They talk about the bet sizes according to the number of chips(i.e. "he bet 5 chips") instead of the actual amount because no one is used to calculating bets in intervals of 3. Also, it makes you think too long about pot odds and calculating betting amounts because it is foreign when it is your first time. I ended up losing 200 on a big pot with my AK getting cracked by A6 when the lady made a flush on the river, oh well. The room is very nice, tables and chairs very comfortable, but those 3 dollar chips are a dumb idea.
Next day I had six hours to play and decided I would go down to the MGM and play, I heard some good things about this room. This is a great room. More spacious than anywhere else I have played in vegas. I got seated at about 11 after a 20 minute wait. Played 1-2 NL and had a real dry run of cards for most the time. Two hands of note: myself and 2 other players all in preflop I have tens, one guys has fives(yes there are fish in this pond) and the other AQ. I flop top set and the guy with AQ goes runner, runner to make his flush and beat me out of a 250 dollar pot, not fun. A little while later, I pick up fives and limp with a few others, flop a set, one guy bets out half his stack (about $40) i smooth call, turn comes a 5, not a bad card for me, the guy moves in for 50 more and mucks after I call and turn over the nuts. After it is over i end up 100 and down 100 for the trip. The MGM is very nice and will be playing there next time.
NOTE: We stayed at the Barbary Coast and I consider this the best value on the strip, the rooms are great, nice size, very clean 40" plasmas in all rooms and you are right across from the Bellagio(can see the water show from your room) centrally located to everything and the room was 95 for the night.
All in all it was a fun, quick trip cant wait to go back and find some better starting hands and connect on a few more flops next time.
PS this site helped alot, keep posting people it is huge help.
