MGM and Paris

I was in Vegas for a conference and had little time until Thursday (1/19) to play. Miss America pageant was in town (Aladdin), but a lot of "beautiful people" were in the MGM. Played in the MGM 6 pm Tourney. Stayed really tight, didn't catch too many cards and finished 7th when I went all in as the short stack with a 95 suited. I thought that the early tournament play was very loose and aggressive. Catching cards in the early rounds could lead to accumulating big chip stacks. I was never able to get beyond the average stack and by the time the final table was put together, I was in trouble. They paid down to 4th. I like the layout of the room because it didn't feel like you were in a huge convention hall with people and tables everywhere like Commerce Casino in CA. It is next to the bar, but I didn't find the noise level distracting.

I also played at the Paris tournament on Friday. The tourney structure makes it a crapshoot. The blinds go up every 15 minutes and you only start with 1400 in chips. Because of this, there are few locals. I didn’t catch enough cards and went out first at the final table with 77.

Then I sat at the 3/6 limit game for 4 hours. Very loose game and everyone was interested in having fun. Probably 3 or 4 people who new how to play and the rest were tourists. Bought in for $200 and finished up $100. Playing Axs, Kxs and Qxs is very profitable, because despite the flush on the board, people will continue to raise/re-raise with Two Pair and even Top Pair. One guy even told me he thought I had the flush, but called me all the way to the river. Pots were consistently raised pre-flop with junk out of position. Loved it.
