My MGM Test Run This Week
Well, after reading comments here the past couple of week I was really excited to try out the MGM room during my stay this week.
Overall, it's a nicely set up room. Tables are wide spaced, everything is new, etc. The bar next door was extremely noisy as a previous poster mentioned. If you don't care for really loud rock music, this isn't the place to play. I'd much prefer a smaller casino with a room where you can concentrate on the cards.
MGM really needs to get a grip on their new computer system. It's a nice idea - being able to notify the desk when a seat opens up, video screened waiting list, cocktails at the push of a button, etc. I got to wondering if they did all this because they new the bar would be so loud no one would be able to communicate by voice.
It was almost as if management had no training on the computer system. You walk up to the desk and they've got that deer in the headlight look when they reach for the mouse and start working the computer.
My experience was that dealers forgot to push the button to notify the desk when a seat was open, or someone would sit down and they'd forget to notify that the seat was filled. All of this made the waiting list very confusing for employees and players alike.
I showed up for my second session and there was a waiting list for the 2-4 game. Thought I'd try out the pagers that were noted here at allvegaspoker.com You have to ask for them and they will give one to you, although reluctantly - don't expect them to offer. Walked around for about 20 minutes, but never got paged.
When I got back to the room, I was first on the list and thought I'd be next in the game. Then one of the employees came up to the desk and told the person who was trying to run the computer to move another player up. They spent about three minutes trying to figure out how to do that on the screen, but finally got it accomplished. That was it for me and I walked to another casino. Great idea to have a waiting list where everyone can see where they're at, but if you're going to "in your face" bump people down, it doesn't do much for your image as a casino. Maybe I got bumped by a high roller, but geeze it was for a 2-4 table!
I may give MGM another shot during my next visit - just to see if they were able to work out the kinks. However at this point, I'd have to say there are too many great places to play in Vegas where you don't have to deal with loud noise, confusion and poor service.
Best of luck to you all,
Tom
