My Week in Vega$
Just finished a week in Vegas, and I always check out this awesome site, so I wanted to contribute. Mostly played low level (1/2) no limit cash games and played at MGM more than the other rooms. Unfortunately, the room is in an open area and is right next to a bar that blares music. The tables are nice, and I actually like the granite edges that make it easy to stack chips. The management quality ranged from very good to uninterested, depending on who you deal with.
I've been playing in Vegas since the time that there were no low level no limit games. I go 2-3 times per year. Now with every trip, there
are new card rooms and old rooms that have added no limit cash games. There are still many bad players. But the thing I noticed this trip is
that there are more and more players coming out that are experienced and pretty decent due to internet play. The overall quality seemed a little higher than before.
Some of these players still don't understand the difference between cash play and tournaments. For instance, they'll go all in on a draw that is
2 1/2 to 1 against hitting and they'll only be getting 1:1 on their money.
I still made most of my money off of the bad players. One drunk, instead of calling for cocktail waitress, called out for the
"stewardess!" One sober player was pondering calling an all-in bet and was sliding his cards over each other on the felt, looked at them as he
was sliding them, announced "call" and turned over 9 3. Everyone on the table was stunned. He had looked at the nine twice!! The irony is that the all-in better actually had 99 so it would have been a split pot!
At the Alladin I ran into several very good players. The Stratosphere has some very nice room managers but they are struggling to maintain a no limit game. They do have 2-4 limit running regularly. The Monte Carlo games also varied in quality of players. It's always been one of my favorite rooms, but freqemntly it only has one NL table and it's not worth the wait when you can go to a room that has 3-6 tables offering 1/2 NL games.
The Sahara continues to run excellent inexpensive tournaments. $42 buy in, 1 $20 rebuy, running 11am, 7pm, 11pm each day. Take the monorail right to the Sahara back door from down south on the Strip for a very easy trip.
I look forward to seeing everybody else's trip reports, especially Omaha Dave's!
