Online Hold-em Vs. Live Play in Las Vegas Casinos
I'm a LADY who loves to PLAY...
My favourite betting style is $1,2 NL Hold'em. I really don't like $3,6 Limit or any Limit game for that matter. But during my 3 night stay (Jan 22-25/06), I played $1,2 NL, $3,6 Limit, and a $50 Tourney (25 people).
Sunday, Jan 22nd, 4:30-5:30am (Lost $100)
$3,6 L Hold'em at RIVIERA (min. buy-in $50) The tables were a cordoned off area ...about 6 tables...
2 tables going, $3,6 Limit and $1,2NL I sat down at the $3,6... other one was full. The Pit Boss, an asian gentleman with squinty eyes. Nice guy, chit chatted you up as you passed by to get you to play.
Lost $100 because a calling station at the table got lucky twice heads-up with me with my pocket 10s (bet him all the way and he got his K on the river playing K,3offsuit) and my A,K...(I flopped top pair and raised him all the way to the river and he got his trips on his pocket 5s) then I lost a few smaller hands, getting rivered 5 times) and got blinded away. Did I say I hate Limit?
Pretty loose table, most everyone called to see the flop all the time. If you like limit, are good, this is a good place to get some money.
However, play was quite slow...the dealers aren't very good at pushing the play forward, faster...they let the players dominate the round.
The dealers (the young asian girl especially) was not on the ball alot. I had pocket As I went all in on, someone to my right went all in and a 3rd guy called.
I won but she forgot and started pushing all the chips to the other guy who went all-in.
At other times, she would often pause and had to think who won the hand or not. Sometimes the Pit Boss would sit and deal and they were better at
moving the game along..but the other dealers let the play go slow....less rakes for Riviera since it takes longer to play a round.
(WON $89) Sunday, Jan 22nd 11:30pm to Monday, Jan 23rd, 12:00-4:30am
$1,2 NL Hold-em at Riviera (min. buy-in $100)
Very loose players...at least 3 of them went all in 2-3 times and rebought. Didn't learn their lessons....often there were $15 raises pre-flop...not all the time but if there was a raise it would be about $15 or more.
(LOST $28) Monday, Jan 23rd 11:30pm to Tuesday, Jan 24th 12:00-12:30am
$1,2 NL Hold'em at Monte Carlo (min. buy-in $100)
Very Professional poker room and packed...had prize pools for hands like straight flushes, 4 of a kind, etc.
I sat at a full table and realized there were 2 local sharks there. They each had over $900 in chips. I showed aggression preflop (raised $20), one of them reraised me and went all in. I had to fold and felt it was a message so I limped
in the rest of the session and only raised when it flopped for me. If you have the bankroll, go ahead and be aggressive, but if you are starting out with $100, the sharks can afford to bully you if they've been sitting there for awhile ..they'll
pay to see what you'll do (can you be bullied? how tight are you? what do you really play?).
It was difficult for me to win here because the professional players read me very well and there weren't alot of loose players for me to take advantage of. I cashed out the chips to play at the much looser Rivier tables.
Players at my table were tight and aggresive...not too many fish that night.
(WON $28)Tuesday, Jan 24th, 1:00-4:30am
$3,6 L Hold-em at Riviera
Played against the loose fish from the first night. He was lucky for a whole hour, kept getting good cards and betting big every time, only to lose all his chips eventually...that was justice for me to see it...you don't deserve to win if you call everything. :)
(LOST $53) 4:00-5:30pm
$50 Tourney + $3 additional chip add-on pre-start at LUXOR (Total $53)6 players in the money, I came 7th (in the bubble)
Dead-pan faces...no one cracked a smile, even when I did :)
It was a turbo tourney...blinds went up every 15 minutes...by an 1 1/2 the blinds were $400 and $200 from $10 and $15.
A mixture of players, some tight passive, some bullies, generally tight and semi-aggressive. I eventually came in 7th...had to go all in on my last $200 chips because I was big blind at $400 with A,9 offsuit and a small blind to come up next anyway..might as well go all in on A,9. I lost to pocket 10s with no flop for me.
I didn't play any ring games at Luxor..but they seemed professional..had placing chips for you to tell you where you were sitting when the tournament started.
The Poker Room was a sectioned off area and looked inviting to play ring at.
(WON $303) Wednesday, Jan 25th, 12:00-4:30am
$1,2 NL Hold'em at Riviera
The first 2 nights it was easy pickings, very loose players willing to pay $2 to see the flop and call your $15-20 bets on draws. Tonight there were 4 very good players at a table of 10... luckily 3 eventually left and there was 1 left with a huge chip stack in front of him (~$800). Eventually 2 of the loose players from the previous evenings showed up and rebought in 2-3 times at $200 each.
The better, tighter players kept getting the fishes' $ because they'd call
$20 on a lot of straight draws. You just had to wait for your premium hands and reel them in.
$239 TOTAL WINNINGS ON TRIP (mostly at the Riviera)
I walked to the Circus Circus Poker room...it was sectioned off area to the immediate right of the casino entrance. About 6 tables there, but everytime I walked by there were only 1 or 2 tables full and they were playing $3,6 L Hold'em. It looked so lonely I didn't desire to play there.
Almost played in the Harrah's glassed in poker room...but didn't...I went in and it was almost dead quiet in there. Everyone looked so serious.
The betting in the Vegas tables I played at were more aggressive than online...that means a 1st raise would usually be $15 or more...and not the 3BB that alot of onliner's use.
The Sharks who knew how to play you, would stare at you for 10 minutes and keep watching you at the table...it was sometimes nerve wracking...so if you stopped looking their way,....you could concentrate on being neutral and emotionless when it was your turn to act.
The Fish always looked so serious when they called you....like it was so tough for them to lay the cards down...especially on a big raise.
