Poker at Luxor, Excalibur and the New MGM Room
I went to Vegas from April 10-12 and looked forward to playing some poker. I have played there in the past and had some success and have been playing for about 2 years now. I did not play on the first day I arrived here is what happened when I played on day 2 and 3.
I went to MGM to see all the hype from this website about the poker room.. Everything said is right on target. It is one of the most premier rooms on the strip. Good management, good cocktail waitresses and a decent game. Along with nice table, and Big Screens all over. I played the $100 max buy NL table.. Good crowd, friendly game with mainly tourist and 2 locals... I lost one big had when I was there when my AK offsuit got cracked by 10's full over kings. I was just unlucky there.. I ended up dropping $140 there, but would play there again..
After MGM I decided to play in a $55 tourney at the luxor.. 30 players mainly tourist (Fresh Fish) The problem I have with this tourney is you get $300 in chips and the blinds go up every 15 mintues.. By the final table it turns into an all-in fest.. I finished 7th, one out of the money, when My AQ hearts was cracked by KK after a flop of A-X-X and a K on the river.. That was enough for day.
The next day I decided to play at the Luxor in the 2-4 case game.. I have played in the in the past and made decent money by catching against the crowd. Not such luck this time around. I lost about $50 when my two nut straights off the flop were cracked by runner-runner flush and runner-runner full house. The flush made me more upset and the person didn't know they even had a flush draw she called me all the way down with low pair and caught.. All in all Luxor room is nice, too small and not a high enough no-limit game..
Finished up by playing at the Excalibur. I should have benn playing there all day. Ended up winning back some of my losses on a couple of hands, before having to leave to catch my flight. I played the 2-6 spread game and took a guy 2 hand in a row for about $100. My first hand, I limped with AJ Spades and the flop can down K-10-Q rainbow for my nut straight.. The betting was capped after the flop, turn and river and the guy I was against had the low end of the straight with J-9. Locals at the table asked what he thought I had as I was reraising the whole time..Very next hand I was dealt 3-3 and the flop can down 10-8-3 with two clubs. I checked and the same guy who was in the pot with me last time bets out and I call in through the turn, when the river was blank and I know my set of 3's were good, I bet out on the river and he raised me. (What is he thinking??) I decided just to call and spare him some money. He had A-10 and was not happy with my slow play. After that any pot I was in after the flop that I raised had the players folding...I guess that was just my night. I liked the Ex's room it is huge, however a little rundown. I like the AA craked rule where you can spin the wheel...
Looking at going back out in July for the WSOP and playing more poker.
