Poker from a Woman's point of view

I played 55 hours of poker at several Casinos: MGM, Aladin, Excalibur, Harrah’s and Wynn. I started off playing limit, $2-$4 and $3-$6, but after being sucked out on the river constantly my husband talked me into trying the $1-$2 no limit tables. Life was much better after moving to no limit.

Last year was my first experience playing poker in a casino, and I felt the most comfortable playing at the Excalibur in the $1-$3 limit game. However, this year after having more experience under my belt, I branched out to other casinos.

Excalibur - Still great for beginners, but the tables are in rough shape, and it is noisy next to the casino.

MGM - A nice high tech room, with good dealers and comps. However, it is VERY loud at night, which made it hard to talk to the person next to you let alone the dealer. Also another negative for women is the bathroom situation. The bathroom near the poker room is very small, 4 stalls, and there is always a line. Worse, is at night there are usually very drunk women getting sick in there. I missed 4 hands just going to the bathroom. We found this was a great place to play during the day, but avoided it in the evenings.

Aladin – I really liked this room. Quiet, and secluded from the casino, but very casual and friendly dealers. Drink service was a bit slow sometimes, but not bad. They had sit-n-go’s on Sundays which my husband played in a couple, winning one of them.

Harrah’s – A very plain room with so-so dealers. We played here once, for a few hours, and didn’t return.

Wynn – Very nice room, we played $1-$2 no limit, and although we were the lowest table buy in in the room, we were treated like we were high rollers. The service was amazing from the poker room manager to the dealers and the waitresses. The chairs were the most comfortable ever, they swiveled and you could change the chair height. Of course it didn’t hurt that I had my biggest cash out at this table, bought in for $100 and cashed out $437 in about 3 hours.

We met a lot of people who had won an entry into the WSOP main event online. It was fun talking to them while playing, and hearing about their experiences.

We did go see the WSOP on the first day of the main event and walked through the expo there with all the booths for poker stuff. That was fun, and although it was crowded in the ballroom where the players were playing, it was fun to walk around and see who was there.

For my 9 sessions where I played limit I ended up down $221, but for my 10 no limit sessions I ended up up $266, so I think I will stick with no limit tables from now on! I can’t wait to go back next year!
