Some good, some bad
I was staying at Luxor, the poker room is more like a closet than a room, and they were not spreading 1-2 so I headed over to Excalibur and did not enjoy the 1-3 game very much. The cards were not coming. There was a maniac who was just crazy raisin' everything. I was not too sharp having just driven in and it seemed like there were a lot of locals who were enjoying a lot of inside jokes with the dealers. I did not enjoy the feel of the room very much.
The next night I walked over to MGM and had a blast. The room is great. There was no wait. The play was very solid and most of the players were very courteous and friendly. The dealers were good. It was fun because I walked away from the 1-2 up $200.00, but the most fun was supplied by my new friend Barry from Canada. Barry was the life of the party, ordering "surprise" drinks for everybody (not me, don't drink), getting to know everybody, and just making the table light without taking away from the poker. If you ever sit down with Barry at a poker table you will be pleasantly surprised.
Tuesday night I tried Excalibur again and the experience was worse.
Wednesday at around noon I headed to Venetian to check out the swanky room. Just as I walked up they were starting a new 1-2NL table that was a "must move" so play began right away. The room is spectacular. The staff was friendly. The dealers were very good and the play was very solid for the most part. Got in a hand near the end and paid a guy to see his straight (he played the hand extremely well) and lost my profit, but it was still very enjoyable.
Next time I am out there I will definitely see the Venetian and MGM again.
