Wedding/Poker frenzy
My fiance and I went to Vegas this past week, May 2 thru May 6th, with the intentions of getting away from everything and getting married without telling anyone. Being a poker freak, I also intended on playing as much poker as possible in whatever spare time I could muster. We stayed at the Imperial Palace so that alone should let you in on the fact that I play low limit poker. I'm in it for the fun and love of the game. I'm not one of the billion self-proclaimed "pros" that talk of beating the rake and hourly income at the table. More power to them but I only play for entertainment. That is why I think the Palace is a great place for me. I checked out some of the other more popular and more upscale rooms but their vibe just did not suit me as much as the Palace. Plus it is very convenient to play at the same hotel where you are staying. Anyhoo, I played mostly 2/4 limit with some 4/8 and one no-limit tournament thrown in. Placed 11th after a very stupid and unexplainable call put me out. I'm in therapy now to try and figure out that leak. In all I played 35 hours of fun, low limit poker. After all that time I ended up $200. Plus I had $105 in comps. It was the most fun I have had in a long time, I must say. I liked the room because it was first of all, away from the casino floor. Second was the $3 per hour they pay in comps. I'm told it's the best comp plan in Vegas. They also supplied coffee, cookies, sandwiches, etc., for the players. I hardly ever had to leave. The tables have a lot of room between them and they are also some of the biggest I've seen so there was always plenty of room. That's a plus to me. Dealers were fine and courteous and the wait staff was always there when needed. The game itself, being only 2/4, was really quite loose and full of fish galore. That was expected. But it was fun just trying to beat them out of their chips with their 1 outers that they were constantly chasing. Frustrating at times when they did hit but hey, it's 2/4 for crying out loud. I get such a kick when some of the "good" players sit down at these games and then whine and complain about everyone else's "bad" play when they get their A's cracked by a J,3 offsuit on the river. That alone is sometimes more entertaining than the game itself. If they are indeed as good as they think they are, then they need to be playing the 15/30 at the Bellagio or something.
That's about it for the trip report. It turned out to be more of a room review than a trip report, I realized that about halfway through, but such is life.
Oh yes, I almost forgot. I did get married, at the Little Church of the West, a very nice and famous chapel and it all worked out very well. We even mooched a little afterwards by attending the show, Tony and Tina's Wedding, at the Rio, so we got a champign toast, dancing, dinner, and wedding cake out of the deal. My new wife loves Vegas and she knows I love poker so we are already planning our next trip out there for our first anniversary. It was a total blast.
