In the Neighborhood

I was in Dayton for only the weekend and found this little poker room/social club on Poker Atlas and that name fits the bill. Everyone knows each other and they know immediately if you are the new guy. On Friday night there were only 30-40 people playing 2 tournaments and a cash game.

The competition is fairly easy to read they have all been playing a while but strategy is lacking. I did not notice any funny business as previous reviewers mention. They may have cleaned this up since opening as I understand it is only a couple of years old. I did enjoy the no rake. Yes, I said NO RAKE for cash games. You have to pay a fee $20-$25 when buying in.

It seems they have some great tournaments for regulars because it is a weekly cumulative but if you are not sticking around it is not worth playing. I would love to have this club in my neighborhood to get my weekly fix. No promos or comps for those passing through. My rating would be higher if there was something for newbies.

The dealers were friendly and answered any questions you may have. One problem sometimes their math was wrong either on payouts or making change. The mistakes were caught by players 3 times in the two nights I was there, somewhat unacceptable. Keep your eye on them. The dealers were rotated timely.

There is a refrigerator and a kitchenette with snacks, sodas, and coffee all complimentary and help yourself; that offering is great for a small establishment like this. It would be a higher rating if food was served; Not sure how that would happen with no kitchen.

Not sure who management was because all the staff seem to rotate from the "cage" to the dealing. This was not a big deal. It seems like a couple of buddies put this place together and work it. That is not a bad thing it makes it feel and appear a good fellows and homely atmosphere and fun.

I may not be back here - not because I do not want to, but because I have no plans to come to Ohio anytime soon. However, as I mentioned I would like this type of club in my neighborhood or maybe I could start one with my buddies.
