The day we have all been waiting for has finally arrived. AVP XVII Meet & Tournament will be held TODAY at the Stratosphere. Details here!

Our final official AVP Meet and Tournament will be occurring today at the Stratosphere poker room. This exclusive event includes a 1 hour meet and greet with complimentary pizza and a $100 House Rake Free NLHE Tournament with a great structure and deep starting stack.

Everyone is welcome to attend and play in our AVP Event, though AVP members may be entitled to special bonuses. It is not too late to register for AVP (free, of course) and take full advantage of this long awaited special event.

The official meet start time is 2PM, whereupon pizza and drinks will be served in the Stratopshere Poker Room. The tournament will start at 3PM and will be a $100 Rake Free tournament (the Stratosphere is graciously not taking any house rake from the buy in, though a small percentage is being withheld for tournament staff). The tournament will be a No Limit Hold'em tournament, with a 10,000 starting stack and 30 minute levels. The blinds will start at 25/50 at 3PM.

It is rather fitting that this is the Stratosphere is hosting our 17th official AVP Meet. Several years ago, it was the "sister" property of the Stratosphere poker room, the Sahara, that hosted our very first AVP Meet. The Stratosphere in many ways took the reigns of the Sahara once that historic property closed, offering the old Sahara tournament schedule and welcoming many of the Sahara staff members, including the poker room manager. We cannot thank Stratosphere enough for hosting us for our 17th Meet and Tournament!

Get there early and re-entries will be permitted. We are expecting a good size turnout and don;t want anyone to be shut out, so we recommend getting there by the 2PM Meet start time and enjoy some pizza while you get yourself ready for our special event! These events are so much more than just a poker tournament. They are truly social events with a great group of people from this site and all over the city. We look forward to seeing you there!

  1. I am actually contemplating coming to this. Need some motivation, tho. We'll see how I do in the big tournament series coming up locally. I hear December is a nice time to visit Vegas, right?

  2. I had already booked hotel and airfare for the first week of November, but I was able to change things today to be there this weekend. Yea!!! My first AVP meet in a couple of years. Can't wait.

  3. Ummm, I'm in.

  4. @razorbk1

THIS is awesome!!! Glad to hear razor! Looking forward to it!

  5. Just submitted my request to have that day off for this, looking forward to it!

  6. Count me in.

  7. The one weekend I can't go. I don't think my daughter Emily would like me missing her 9th Birthday Party. I will be at XVIII.

  8. D*** it, missing it by a couple hours -- I'll be in the air on my way to Vegas when the tourney starts, but not expected to hit the McCarran tarmac till 8PM. Unless I can find a decent flight change (and there wasn't much when I booked), I'm out.

    Dave

  9. Sorry to hear Vinnie! Maybe you can bring her, and we'll get some cake too, and make it AVP XVII and a an IX bday party??? haha

Dap, we will still have plenty of games going I'd imagine! You should come by regardless and say hi to a few folks! I'll probably still be there playing in a mix game or something.

  10. any plans for a Jan event or meet?

  11. Of course I'll be there!

  12. As of right now, count me in. I'm already booked for that weekend to play in the Mirage freeroll on Sunday. Never even been in the Stratosphere before, so it should be an experience.

Any plans for an AVP side trip to do any rides at the top?

Will we get a mixed game going for the folks who get knocked out?

Did I mention that I got a room at the IP for $33--total for the 3 nights?

  13. @twriter

i LOVE the idea of a side trip up to the top! I wouldn't ride some of those rides, but do love the Big Shot!

And YES, we will hopefully get several games going for people who get knocked out.

  14. Sounds like fun. I might be able to pop in for a quick weekend trip, schedule permitting.

  15. Hello,

I just registered at this website. My wife and I have been using the AVP app for the past year when we have visited Vegas. Great app, really helped us out find poker games suitable for us.

Both of us like the setup of this tournament, deep stack, long blinds and reasonable cost. I do have one question. What does "no rake" mean?

We usually make it to Vegas a couple times a year. Both my wife and I enjoy playing poker, she plays more than I do and wins more too. I like a nice calm $2-$4 limit game at IP, but also like occasional tournaments. She enjoys low limit games, but more prefers tournaments with bigger stacks.

I've been reading some of the threads on this site and am looking forward to reading more. Thanks for creating and maintaining this site!

    Tom

I am not much for riding the rides, but I have spent some time drinking in the bar while my friends rode the rides.

  17. I'll ride Big Shot, but other than that, I'll be at the bar with you Razor!

  18. May I suggest starting a list in the OP pf the people who have committed to attend?

  19. Yep, will do,

  20. So now that we are making a list of attendees, WHO'S COMING???

  21. ...and I will be there to try and take that dead money.

  22. hoping to attend have requested the day off, what is going to be the policy for walkins? have some people that i have told about the site but as far as i know havent registered.

  23. Walkins are welcome as long as we have space available, which we should. Feel free to spread the word!

  24. I'm in to take Rob's & Prudence's money. It's been a while....

  25. i will be in vegas from the 4th to the 11th in dec.,considering this tourney!! alot of good ones on saturdays though.. got room for $148 at the stinky ol I.P. or should i say QUADS..

  26. $100 entry,no rebuys or addons?

  27. Trust me there are no better tourneys on Sat Dec 8th. $100, no rake (this means that all the buyins go straight to the prize pool and the house doesn't take anything), re-entries (if you bust) for the first 90 min, and seating for 150 people.

  30. New member to AVP, me and my pal are flying in from the UK 5th December and we are really looking forward to this event.See you there on the 8th

  31. Awesome, thanks Jenno and welcome to AVP!

  32. I will be there. I am in town on a permanent basis now.

  33. Please Pm me your email address kinsmen.

  34. Don't post much but love this site and I'm gonna be in town that weekend. count me in!!

  35. I have to admit, despite the opportunity to meet again some of the AVP folks I met at the last meet (and maybe meet some new ones), the prospect of what's looking more and more like "only" a 2-3 table event grows less and less appealing to me. I'm finding it hard to be optimistic that in one week that the event coule double, triple, or more in size from the current list of commitments.

I think publicity for this event is hampered also by threads such as this one that don't appear on the front page when new posts are added. Not sure why that is, but I'd urge it to be changed.

  36. We won't get less than 100 people. It's been in the forums for 2 months, and it's being advertised at Strat. We not have room for 150 people so we didn't want to verly promote it and end up with 300 people. But you should come regardless...it's a 100+0 tourney with a lot more than 3 tables lol

  37. Hey,

If there is still room, I'd like to come for this tourney!

  38. It's open to everyone. Come and join us!

  39. im in might be able to convince better half too.

  40. looks like fun! See you all there!

  41. @JonFriedberg
Jon, I understand that you have to stay positive and that you have to continue to promote the event, but I'm looking at existing data, and I'm finding it hard to be optimistic. At the last AVP Meet I attended, there were more than 70 names in the OP of AVPers who committed to play. As it was in a (relatively) high-traffic, mid-Strip room, it was probably also easier to attract casual, walk-by entrants.

The current list has fewer than 20 names for an event in a room that draws less casual traffic. Maybe I'm missing something big time, but I'm having a hard time seeing how it'll go from the current numbers to 100+ in less than a week. And understand this is one case where I'd love to be proven wrong.

Meanwhile, although I'd have a hard time both playing and taking photos, would you like me to bring my camera gear? I have a Canon SX40 HS "superzoom" and a Canon EOS 60D with 3 lenses, including an f2.8 70-200mm lens that I use for low-light indoor and sports photography.

  42. Trophies have been ordered!

I'd be surprised if there were less than 5 tables, but even if it is a small event I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. I played one a while back at the MGM Grand and most of the people there weren't even forum posters. Whatever the turnout the tournament is a great value regardless of the size of the field.

I'm not sure if I can make this due to other commitments, but if I can make time I'll swing by.

  44. Im coming! Looking forward to meeting more local players

  45. @JonFriedberg

Just signed up to check this tourney out! Looks like a sweet one, but seems to be inconsistent in the structure. This post mentions 30 mins and blinds starting 25-50, but the structure sheet on page 4 is different? Thanks AVP!

  46. I won't be there, BTW :disappointed:

  47. I will be in attendance, looking forward to it!

  48. @talon1964

Just in attendance? Or also helping me hang banners?? lol

  49. lookin forward to this!

  50. COUNT ME IN, THANKS FOR THE GAME

    Debby

  51. Just heard that we have almost 50 signed up already! Keep in mind that we have 15 tables which will accommodate 150 starting entries plus alternates and re-entries. So get there early...which also means free pizza! See y'all tomorrow!

  52. I'll be there. And if any AVP'ers knock me out...I'm gonna sell my login info to Russian spammers.

  53. @RazCue

    Lolol so that explains it!!!

  54. I will be there. Thanks for hosting this!

  55. I'm in. Oh, yeah...

  56. Greatly looking forward to today's event!

I will be there directly from work, and will probably get there shortly after 4PM. My goal is to last until 5.

I think its formidable. See you all soon!

  57. @twriter [/quote]

Sure the more cameras the merrier!

  58. count me in (Chris Holmes)...

  59. I'll be there... Looks like fun

  60. Just bought my seat, I'll be on table 2 seat 3! See you all at the Stratosphere!

  61. Today was such a huge success!!! I'm so proud to be a part of AVP. Couldn't have gone any better. The Stratosphere staff (Rick and Jen) executed perfectly, the dealers were all great, and from what I kept hearing, everyone had a great time. Thank you all for playing, railing, and your involvement and contribution to AVP. We have a ton of great pics that will get uploaded tomorrow (Sunday). And of course, congrats to our winner who was also our last avp'er standing, "Nevada Sherman". We had about 200 entrants and 20 spots paid. Another great tourney for AVP. Thanks again!

  62. My thanks go out to Jon, all the AVP personnel involved, the Stratosphere poker room staff and especially the dealers for making this such a great event. I had a wonderful time meeting many new people that I hope will become familiar faces soon. A load of great people and a ton of great poker. Can't wait for the opportunity to hang out with a great group like that again. So thanks again.

P.S. Special congratulations to all of the wonderful folks that were at the final table. Y'all were great. Keep in touch..... NevadaSherm

  63. Thanks for the t-shirt and card capper. Very cool.

  64. Absolutely, Thanks for playing McGee!

  65. Thanks for a good time, free t-shirt, pizza and a great bad beat story. I had a blast and met a few fellow AVP'ers.

  66. Great to finally meet you Raz! Thanks for playing!

  67. It was a fun game, thanks for a great tournament. I look forward to the next one. Congrats to all who cashed :sunglasses:

    Debby

  68. Thanks for a great day of poker, AVP! I was at seat 9 of the final table. First time ever at the Stratosphere - I will be back! All the best! Dalecgy

  69. Thanks Bagelbear and Dalecgy! Glad you both came to play!

  70. THE PICTURES FROM AVP XVII ARE IN!!!! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... ba5ac360f6

  71. Results are in from the Stratosphere $100 No Rake AVP XVII Tourney...

As previously reported, the final 8 players decided on an even chop of $1597 each. The top 20 players made the money.

Sherman "NevadaSherm" Johnson had the largest chip stack at the point of the chip chop and thus was determined the champion of AVP XVII.

    Results:

Sherman Johnson (final 8 each received $1597)
    Dale Henderson
    Martin Pikolon
    John Nicholas
    Levi Samuels
    Jarrod Bagley
    Ronnie Ahronurtis
    Chuck Edkenberg

    9th - Dennis Mccunniff - $493
    10th - Jerome Aguth - $388
    11th - John Shiohira - $388
    12th - Jose Salgado - $388
    13th - Mike Davis - $304
    14th - John Yelaney - $304
    15th - Stacy Alexander - $304
    16th - Janera Smith - $263
    17th - Eric Castilleo - $263
    18th - Jared Bronson - $263
    19th - Horacio Rodriquez - $150
    20th - Tom Santasteven - $150

  72. First of all, I have to say publicly that I was wrong, and I'm glad I was. Although I kept seeing "only" about a couple dozen AVPers publicly commit to playing here in the tournament thread, the tournament itself sold out and was most definitely not "only" 4 or 5 tables as I feared. And while I do have a couple of quibbles, which I'll detail later, and despite getting knocked out by a 2-outer, I did have a good time and want to thank Jon, AlaskaGal, AVP, and the Stratosphere. As usual with AVP: good times!

  73. Wherd are the pics?

  74. wildmanner - The pics were posted on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... ba5ac360f6
