Just curious to see what people think the best poker tournaments are in general...any region goes.

  1. I think the best tournament series in Vegas is Venetian Deepstack

  2. I'm not sure if you mean what specific tournaments are the best, or what kind of tournaments are the best. But I prefer freezeout tournaments, where all of the tables are continuously combined as players get knocked out, until there is one final table, and eventually one winner.....as opposed to shootout tournaments where each table plays down to a winner, and then all of the winners are combined, and the process repeats until there is just one winner.

Structure wise, I like tournaments that have a decent amount of play to them, but not too much play. So tournaments that have ~30 minute levels and not-too-fast blind escalations are my favorite.

Location wise, I think you will find good tournaments everywhere. Just browse through PokerAtlas and check out the times, buyins, starting chips, level times, etc. This site has it all.

  3. The Wynn in Vegas on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays.

10K guaranteed on Fri/Sun $200 buy in NLH
    30 min levels

25K guaranteed on Sat $225 buy in NLH
    40 min levels

The levels give you enough time to play your game and the prize pool is legit.

  4. Aria tournaments are great values. Usually cost a little more but with the chipstack size, the players they draw and blind levels it's a very good deal.

  5. One thing to look for is who's running it. Fox example if Matt Savage is running it, you know it's going to be good. I really look at structures too. Odds if the structure is very good, the event itself will be too. Also see if they're under TDA rules. Makes the odds better you won't run into any goofy house rules or odd rulings.

  6. Heartland Poker Tour tourneys have a really good structure and there's a lot of good players and people that play those events. Heard MSPT is pretty good too.

  7. Just go to the Aria. Pretty much have everything on lockdown there.
