Poker buy in payments

Can these be done ahead of the tournament? Forgive me for sounding stupid, but can pay a buy-in ahead of time for brother I thought maybe I would surprise him with the buy-in paid already and he would be registered and have to just show up, as a Christmas gift and then he would be able to play in a poker tournament. Is that doable in Vegas?

  1. Too late for this Christmas, but...

No. For some larger series they allow you to register ahead and wire/mail the buy in to guarantee a seat. But for run-of-the-mill poker tournaments in Vegas, registration opens about an hour before the tournament. They just don't have a way to keep track of that kind of thing.

You could make a gift certificate and then pay his buy in when he goes. Or if you aren't going with him, you could attach a check or casino chips with the intention he uses the money in a tournament.
