We arrived at MGM grand at around 2pm on Monday and immediately got upgraded to a suite for some nominal amount. My friend and his dad went to hti up some slots while I made my way to the poker room.

I decided to build up a little bank roll before getting completely plastered and blowing all of it on things I will never remember so the day started out with a pretty tight game.

My 1/2 NL table was tight and generally boring. I was falling asleep and seriously considering getting boozed up when I find KK UTG. I check, everyone else checks (damnit) button bumps it up to $18 (sweet), i raise to $40, everyone folds around to the button who reluctantly calls. The flop bring kh-7h-4s I bet $50 and button calls. The turn is a 9h. I bet $50 into him not wanting to show too much weakness and he insta puts me all in for my remaining $70.00 At that point I asked if he had AQ of hearts and he just shrugged...oh well $70 more and I'm drawing to a boat in the worst case... I call and he tables AQ of hearts...
The river brings a 7 of diamonds pairing the board. SWEET. I double up and about 20 minutes later go meet up with my friend and his dad for lunch.

After lunch I head over to the $2-$5 table which has action comparable to Commerce in socal. Huge preflop raises with many callers, big pots, all in all a lot of fun. After sitting there for about 30 minutes and taking down a pot preflop with a big raise with TT, i'm getting a little restless. I find 9d-10d in mp and manage to get into the action after someone raises it to $15 and 4 others call. The flop is Kd-Jd-8h. EP player bets ..$15, gets called, i bump it up to $40, button calls everyone else folds. Turn is a black jack. I bet $40, button thinks and calls. River bricks and brings a small black card, maybe a 4 or a 5, I've got about $120 left behind....if I check I lose..

Oh well, I fire $60 into the pot and the button tanks. He finally shrugs and folds. After another 40 minutes of sitting on my hands I cash out up $300 for my 2.5 hrs at MGM and head over to watch David Copperfield.

After the show we hit up TI where I drink a couple of quick vodka red bulls and donk off $250 in less than an hr chasing draws that didn't hit. QQ getting cracked by A-J with J-J-10 flop didn't help either.

TI poker room closed down around midnight and we taxied back to MGM. I sat at the $2-5 table for half an hour before it broke and bought in to the $1-2 game for about $170. First hand I'm dealth j-9 of hearts, flop a flush and triple up instantly when a set and a baby flush push all in. Thank you. At this point I'm sitting on about $520 which starts to slowly dwindle away as the hours drag on.

About an hour before cashing out I get "the" hand. The one hand of the night you always wait for when you're card dead. You wait for it thinking that this is gonna make the last 3 hours of card deadness all worth it.

I'm on the BB with k-6 off. 5 players limp in preflop. Flop 6-6-3. SB checks, I check, MP checks, CO bets $15, button calls $15, SB folds, I raise it to $35, MP player who has been pretty solid the whole night pushes all in for about $100.

CO (who's been pretty erratic during the night) tanks and says "I call."
I also call not really able to put anyone there on A-6 and thinking that I'm really only behind 3-3.

The turn brings a K putting 3 spades on the board...
I check, CO says "i'll just fire $30 at it."
I raise it to $130 and he calls after some thinking.

The river brings some face card and I put the other player all in for the remaining $140-ish saying "If you've got a 6 you can't really fold now." And so he pushes his remaining stack into the middle.

MP player stands up and asks if I've got a boat, kings and sixes and I nod as I dump it on the table. CO mucks his 6 no kicker and MP shows a flush.

An hour later I cash out for about $850 and call it a night and 3 hours later at 10 am we're driving back home to sunny southern california.

Thank you las vegas.

  1. Nice report. Idiot.

  2. i have also endured the feeling of waiting and finally getting "the hand". It truly is a great feeling. Nice report and I wish I could just drive over to Vegas for a night if I wanted to.

  3. I've heard it said that if you find yourself waiting and waiting and waiting to finally get "the hand", it means one of two things:

    you're not bluffing enough

    or

it's time to get up and go do something else. Dinner maybe.

  4. Thanks for the responses. on and lvm is an idiot.

  7. @Clem2754

Of course. I don't care if its a premium hand or not. If this is the hand that doubles me up from $400 to $800 (and it did) then yes it is the hand. Lol I play for money not to stroke some poker ego.
