2-4 Bingo at Bally's

Let me start by saying that I will never play 2-4 limit again on the Vegas strip. The idea that you can make money with a tight/aggressive approach just doesn't hold water here . There are too many novice retiree players with money to burn that call everything with anything. I have played the same game downtown and off strip and the players were much more knowledgeable (probably because many are locals).

With slot machine playing wife in tow, I put in about 13 hours at Bally's broken up into about 4 or 5 sessions over 3 days and came out down about 170 dollars. I was patient and only played and pushed with strong hands. Either these folks didn't know/understand odds or didn't care. I propose it is the latter of the two.

Don't get me wrong, they were nice people and I thought Bally's poker area (its really not a room) was fine (quick drink service, well run). The players, however, were awful. If the percentages would have held up even half of the time, I would have made a killing at these low limit games. Unfortunately, they didn't.

One hand that exemplified the type of play going on. I am holding K,Q suited(hearts) and flop comes Kd, Qd, 7s. I hold top two pair and raise with numerous callers until it is capped. Turn is 10h. Again raise and have 2 callers. Now unless someone is holding my hand or trips I feel pretty good and since no one reraised I figure this to be the case. River 4c. I bet and am called. What is the caller holding? You got it, a pair of fours. Enough said.

Moral of the story, if you have a limited bank roll, you are better off playing sit n gos and no limit tourneys and........leave your wife at home.
