7/21-7/26 Table Games are fun but not my friend (Long)

I arrived Thursday afternoon after flying to Vegas via Richmond and Minneapolis. I stayed at the IP as usual and got a room overlooking a slab of concrete! Much quieter than the usual pool or Carnaval court.

The events that follow were as best as I could remember.

Thursday: The IP room was dark when I checked in as was Harrah's so I headed down to the Mirage. I played some 1/2 and ended up doubling up a guy with ak on an a high flop for around 125 when he catches a set on turn with 44. A few cbets of mine get 3 bet and I am out 200. I decide to change venues and head to the Venetian. A common theme for me was my cbets never working for me this trip. I play a slightly laggy style and it sucks when you never hit the flop and get 3bet alot. I lose in the evening tourney, qqKK and KK>QQ. I keep playing and get down to like 400 after doubling an aggro short stack. He snap shoves with aj vs my KK on a K high flop and hits a straight. I Hit up BLT again and then go to O'shea's. Me and two other guys take all the fishes money at the table. The other players were horrible and had no idea what was going on. One of the dealers chased off one of the drunk fishes b/c the guy was swearing and would not stop. None of the players really gave a rats ass and I was kinda mad he had to go.
I left O'shea's up 150 and went to Bally's with one of the players. Apparently this kid is living out of his car right now and playing on a small roll. He knew how to play though. I don't know why i have never played at Bally's before. The player's were just as bad as o'sheas. The bar is super close to the room so I see why. I catch some cards fast and turn 300 into 498. It is time to go and I run back to IP to check out and catch a cab to the airport.

My trip home was an adventure. A 2 hour layover turns into 7 when my flight gets canceled due to mechanical issues. One of the engines overheats while were are taxiing.

Thoughts on the trip: I am a far better tournament player than a cash game player right now. I felt like I did not get into the swing of things until the end of the trip. Since it was a vacation I was taking way more risks and gambling when I didn't have to. That said I don't get the chance to play much cash living in the middle of VA so I was rusty. I wish I had a few calls back but I think I played well and could have made some more money If just a few twists of fate went my way. I am still planning on moving out to Vegas or Michigan to supplement my income via poker.

  1. Mods: You can delete one of these. They are similar. I didn't think one of them went through. It is amazing how my recollections change overnight.

Very interesting report. Thanks for mentioning the theft and the weirdo. It is good that we are reminded that criminals are lerking in Vegas and we need to be wary and that the town has more than its fair share of jerks.
