Arrived early on July 3rd and waited until the afternoon to play. I stayed at the Westin and walked over to the Imperial Palace to play some 2/4. I played for two hours and won $100 at a very social table. I was catching big hands (AA, JJ twice) in the first twenty minutes and was making trips on the flop. Left and ate dinner, came back and played for 5 hours until 3am, lost $40. I guess I used up all my good hands earlier that day, I was OK with that b/c it's better to get bad cards than ending up with the second best hands. I managed to rack up over $20 in comps at the IP on my first day. Next day moved over to Ballys and played all day at the Flamingo. Worst competioin ever, I kept getting sucked out by terrible hands, but I stayed because I knew their luck couldn't last forever. One hand I had AA and capped it pre-flop with this older man who had AK, there was a woman in between us just calling the raises. The flop comes with an Ace and two hearts, we cap it again and the woman stays in. The turn brings a small heart and the man bets, I raise, the woman calls (shes now all-in). The river is another small heart and the man checks in disgust (because of the 4 flush on board) and I bet with no heart, he calls. I win the side pot with trip aces, and the woman turns over pocket dueces with a heart. WTF! There were moans around the table and the worst thing was that the lady didn't even realize what terrible suck out that was. She stayed in with just two ducks with an Ace on the board and watching me and the old man racing to get our chips in the pot. The poor players luck turned around and I was able to recoop my lost by the end of the night. I played at Gold Coast the next day and won $150 on two sessions. The table was all local, they were all over 70. It was weird being the youngest by 50 years and raking in all the orphan pots. It was fun playing with them, they had great stories, one guy said that he uesd to play gin against Stuey Ungar back in NY, and that he once saw him lose 25 games in a row on purpose at $100 a game, to set up the big games. The old timers were very predictable and risk averse, it was alot easier winning at this table than at the Flamingo with the complete novices. I also got to check out the WSOP and watched the final table for 10k Omaha event, the table consisted of Todd Brunson, Vinny Vinh and Erik Siedel. The poker trade show was also going on in the hall next to the WSOP, I got several free t-shirts from Full Tilt poker, BoDog and Absolute. Overall it was a great week for poker in Vegas, can't wait to go back on Sunday!
