I'm strictly a 2-4 LHE player. I do enter the occasional low entry NLHE tournament in charity events at home (Chicago Charitable Games events) as well as in LV.
We stayed in the Monte Carlo, Oct. 12-15. It was our first time staying there, and I was very satisfied with room, coffee shop, casino and poker room.
2-4LHE was available anytime I stopped by. Daytime was a local + tourist game, pleasant, friendly and definitely low stakes. No pre-flop raises, 2-4 to the flop, 2 at showdown. Evening games were looser with more drinking/tourists, like me.
As a Piker, I like the single BB. Can save me a buck or two a round. Played 4 sessions over the 4 days, 1 win, 3 losing sessions, down maybe
$50. I also played 2-4 at the MGM Grand. MGM is a high energy room, even for us Pikers. Many tables, many tourists, many cocktails. I have had modest success here before, but not this time. 2 sessions, 5-7 hours, down $75.
Now to the cool part.
I read here about the free entry tourney at Excalibur @ 9AM. It's a promo for the electronic Poker Pro tables (no dealers, chips or cards) they have installed.
Tuesday I arrive a 7:15, walk up and register, and I'm set. I last about 2 hours, busting out at 19.
Wednesday, I arrive at 7:05 and i get the last available seat! A good omen.
I was able to double up midway through the first hour. I was chip leader at the next tables I moved to, and went to the final table as chip leader, I had $100K to about 70K in second. No details remembered, as I have never lasted this late into a (semi)live tourney. Final 2, I lead by about 20K, very close, offer even chop, as I need to check out of my room, and I am turned down. 4-5 hands later, I take 1st place! I know, it's only the Excalibur electronic room, but it quite the rush indeed.
More thoughts on the Excalibur room in my forum posts.
