Got into Vegas about 11:00 AM on Friday. We checked into the Imperial palace (cheap & central) Hit the poker tables playing 1 - 2 no limit right away while we were waiting for a third friend to show up. Played about four hours and netted around $50.00. The poker room there is strange. Tables are huge and they rock like you are at sea. The damm slot machines are all around and the bells ring in your head for hours afterwards.
Our friend shows up and we head over to Treasure Island for the 7:00 head hunter. Tournament starts and it is about the tenth hand. Get dealt King and Queen of clubs. Flop comes King of diamonds, Ten of clubs, four of clubs. Guy to my right raises to $200.00. I reraise to 400.00 he calls. Turn comes jack of clubs. BOOYAHH! He bets 500.00 and then I push all in. He turns over ace 2 of clubs! Second guy out. :( Told him nice hand and walked out. Sat at a bar in TI and had a couple of drinks. My friends busted out about half way. One friend loves poker and the other can leave or take it. By the time they busted out. The poker room at TI was busy and there was a long wait or a cash table. We decided to head back to the room and shower and change.
My friends wanted to play blackjack and I decided to see how really soft IP poker was. I sit down at a 1 - 2 no limit at 11:00 PM. The cards were ice cold for the first two hours (every hole card had a two or a four for about forty hands!) The table was filled with tourists and drunks who were rebuying and giving their money to each other. One drunk Texan who was raising everyone and sucking out on everyone was about about a thousand up. He was a real jerk and didn't like anyone who wasn't from Texas. The cards started warming up and I won a few hands and a couple of big pots. I had about $600.00 in chips and was dealt K K. Texas makes his automatic 50.00 pre flop raise and I call him. Flop comes K A A. BOOYAH! I check knowing he will raise. He raises $100.00 I go all in and bust him out. He wasn't happy and was asked to leave by the management. It was now 6:00 am and Saturday and I was up about $1300. I headed up to the room and went to bed.
Got up about noon and my friends wanted to go the MGM. I really liked this room and it was a hundred times nicer then the IP. The tables were nice and the dealers and management was top notch. The only thing the IP has over this place is their waitresses have much bigger cans! We sat down at a 5-10 limit table and I had a great session. I profited $480 from that session. I had a great run of cards that hit almost every flop. We played with a couple of girls from TEXAS! who were pretty sloshed and were coaching me on my play and telling me that my game would be terrible if I ever played no limit.I agreed with them (one of them tried to go all in pre flop and got into a argument with the dealer about it ...it was classic!) We left the room because my friends were getting hungry. I treated them to lunch at wolfgang pucks. I had the best sixteen dollar cheeseburger in my life.
We went to New York New York and rode the roller coaster which is awesome. (buy the $25.00 all day pass because we went on it about six times it was awesome!)Had dinner at a steak house in New York New York which I forget the name...It was excellent and we drank about four bottles of wine and about three glasses of scotch. I treated with my winnings from the MGM the bill was about $450.00. We then headed over to the Luxor and sat down with my friends at a blackjack table. Every hand I was asking my friend what to do. I dropped about three hundred on that stupid game. They were winning and waned to stay. It was getting late and I decided to go back the room since I was pretty drunk and tired. I got back to the IP and like a moron thought I would get a little poker in before bed. (bad move) I sit down at a 1-3 no limit and my very first hand get A-A. I am on the button and the pot has been raised pre flop to 200.00. I shove my buy in. one guy has pocket 4's?? One has pocket Kings and one has Q-9 of spades. When I saw his Q-9 my head did that dog sideways thing. The flop comes all spades and the Q-9 holds up. I rebuy for another $200.00 and continue to drink. I piss that away and rebuhy for another 200 and piss that away. I get up and head to bed about 7:00 AM.
I getup around noon and have lunch at the burger palace. Not a bad burger for a quick cheap eat. I went with one friend to Ceasars palace and boy was that a nice poker room. HUGE room and pretty well organized. The waitress were old and slow. (the IP for all it's faults had lovely waitresses and quick service) Played in a 3-6 limit game since my friend doesn't like no limit and I thought I should spend some time with him. The players went from bad to really bad at this table. They never fold and they play any two cards. One hand I was on the big blind with king ten of spades. I check the button and the flop is King & ten of diamonds and a 4 of spades. I bet 3 and it is re raised by a a very talkative woman in late postion. I reraise to nine and she raises and we cap it. The turn comes nine of clubs. I raises and since we are heads up we both agree to go all in. She shows 10 -4 of diamonds. The whole table was silent looking at her. The river comes and it is a damm 4! She rivered a set! The whole table was in shock. I lost about three hundred in that one pot. Another guy at the table told her that she sucked me out. They got into this heated exchange that she did not suck me out and her hand was better than mine on the flop. I didn't say a word to her because If I did I would probably jump over the table and choke the life out of her. I rebought for another two hundred and pissed that money away trying to get my money back. (I have now learned what it means to be on a tilt and I should have walked away) My friend and I went outside and played black jack at the pussycat casino outside the poker room. Loud music and hot girls dealing and girls in lingerie dancing in cages. Only in vegas! Lost another three hundred at the blackjack table....but the dealer was pretty and it somehow felt ok to lose to her...? We then played video poker at the bar near the pussycat casino and got 86'd on maker's mark on the rocks. It was about Three AM and we decided to walk back to the IP and call it a night. While walking by Oshea's near the IP there is two poker tables set up on the strip by the entrance. I really don't know how people can play at these tables. It is loud and crowded and the place is full of drunken college kids. I watched the table for a few minutes in my real drunk state and was amazed that people play there. I never been in O'sheas before and we decided to walk around. This place makes the IP look good! near the bar they have beer pong tables set up. We watched a bit and then next thing you know were playing beer pong! 23 bucks to get in and ten dollar refills (the loser usually pays) I was very drunk when we started but dammit I was hitting those glasses with the ball like Larry Bird at the top of the key. We played about 8 rounds of beer pong and won six. We also had a side bet of twenty dollars a game I carried my friend back the IP with our 60 in beer pong winnings about 6:00 AM and went to bed. (this city is nuts!)
The next day was our last day and we toured the auto museum at the IP. Free with coupon and it was cool stuff. We went over to the Ventian and hit the poker room. What a beautiful poker room. The whole casino is incredible. The waitress were incredible looking and service was good. I sat down at a 5-10 limit table and had a strange session. Kings cracked twice and aces cracked once. The players were slightly better than the previous days at Ceasers but not much. Met some nice people and made about $30.00. We played some slots called wheel of fortune. I lost about two hundred at that and my friends won about 200 and three hundred prospectively. We then headed over to the Bellagio and had the buffet. It is amazing and the food was excellent. We hit the poker room at the Bellagio and it is by far the most beautiful casino in vegas. I felt like James bond walking through there with the people dressed up and pretty women in cocktail dresses. We went to the poker room and I played 1-2 no limit for about three hours and profited $300.00. It was also a very nice poker room similar to the venetian in every way. We watched a couple of fountain shows which were amazing. We went back to ceaser's palace and played video poker at the bar and got real drunk again! It was around 5:00 AM and our flight was leaving at 2:00 PM. We walked back to the IP and decided to have a night cap and go to bed. I was talking to my friend and we thought screw it lets play poker until we have to leave. We both sat down at the IP 1-2 no limit and started playing on that huge rocking table. (not good when your drunk!) We won a couple of hands and I was talking to this nice girl from Wisconsin who was leaving the same time we were. Then things get strange. This old guy in a motorized chair pulls up and he knows everyone in the room. The girl next to me says that "she feels bad for this guy because everyone takes his money...and he doesn't know how to play." I told her he shouldn't be playing poker then. Well grandpa pulls his chair up tot the table and the very first hand he bets out 40.00. I fold and my friend calls him. The flop comes King of spades four of diamonds and 6 of clubs. The old guy goes all in. (this is after the dealer pushed the flop towards him so he could see the cards.) The old guy goes all in. After he yammers on for five minutes about stuff. My friend calls him my friend shows K K for trip kings. The old guy turned over queen of clubs and the ten of clubs. the turn was a club and the river was a club. My friend started laughing and told the old guy hey you beat me. He got up and walked away. The very next hand I get dealt A A! I make a ten dollar raise and everyone folds except for grandpa. He raises my bet to 30.00 and I call. The flop comes Queen, six, five rainbow. I bet $50.00 and after the flop was pushed over to him he raises all in. I shove and turn over my aces and he turns ten five! The turn is a nine and the river is a five! He rivered a set! I have never lost my cool at a poker table before and I don't know if I was drunk or sleep deprived. I just stood up and looked at the cards. The whole table went nuts. My friend walked back into the room and saw the dealer shoving the chips towards grandpa. He said "what are you doing?"I shouted back "I was slow playing grandpa! I walked away and it just came out of me and I shouted Mother *****!) That was the first time I really lost it at over poker. I went back to my room and lied in bed for about a hour and couldn't sleep. I decided to get a souvenir chip from all the casinos for my son. I went for a two hour walk and hit about twelve of them. (a very long walk which I needed)
We had breakfast at Paris which was amazing and went to the airport and caught or flight home to Boston. It was a great trip and I really had the time of my life.

  1. Nice report, sucks to see grandpa caught fire and killed you and your buddy at the end of it though!!!

  2. sounds like you had an awesome time! so the cheeseburger at wolfgang pucks is really worth the 16 bucks?........my god i think i just came up with their ad slogan

  3. Enjoyed your report. I noticed that several times you talked about hands where three of a kind were involved and you seemed to be confused about trips and a set. A set is a very powerful hand under most conditions. That's when someone has a pocket pair (say KK or AA, but any pocket pair qualifies) and the flop comes and they spike their pair. That's a set and it's powerful because you know the best someone else can have is one of that card. You have two of them. One on the board. There's only one left. You called that trips. Trips is when two similar cards hit the flop and you have one of them. You now have trips, but the difference is someone else can have the other card. And now your hand may only be as strong as your kicker, great if it pairs the board and makes a full house, but not so great if you have trips with a rag as your kicker. So in the last hand with grandpa, technically he didn't river a set. He rivered trips. It may be splitting hairs, but most people identify it this way. And the more important concept is the strength a true set has over simply hitting trips. You can take down some nice pots with a hidden set, pocket pair, says 5s, that connects with the flop. Once in a while, you'll feel the pain, what I think is as tough a beat as you can take mentally, when a bigger set knocks yours into the gutter. Set over set sucks.

  4. Great report!

    @bostonjohn

    You really got tossed out?

    @bostonjohn

    VERY :sunglasses:

    I think he's using the 86'd as getting hammered not kicked out, unless they got so hammered they weren't allowed back

  6. didn't think the bellagio had 1-2 NL last time i checked unless they changed??????

  7. Okies,

    I used the term set and trips interchangeably in the report. I know the difference. Getting burned by three of a kind is usually the board pairs if I remember correctly. If someone had a set I would usually not remember it because that is just plain old domination. When I used the term "set" is more than likely trips. I played hundreds of hands that weekend and they were usually suck outs that stuck in my head.
    Regarding the Bellagio I believe it was 2-5. Whatever their lower limit was. They all kind of blur together :smile:.
    The term 86'd means getting really drunk. What exactly do you have to do to get kicked out of a bar in Vegas?

  8. @bostonjohn

    Ahhh, thanks! I kinda picked that up from the context but I've always been used to seeing the term represent getting tossed from an establishment. And yes, it can even happen in Vegas :scream: :grin:

  9. @bostonjohn

    Pass out head first into a trashcan at the Hogs and Heifers Saloon, my cousin did that last year and he was politely told that maybe he should head somewhere else.

  10. I got my AA cracked at IP by a runner runner straight for about $250 in chips. It was terrible. I sympathize with you. The donks can really test your will to live sometimes.

  11. LOVE O SHEAS!!!! It forces me to play patient cuz there are so many other things to sit and watch

  12. Nice report, as soon as I read the title, I knew you were talking about Jack. He got me twice Thursday morning. KK vs. Q7 off, preflop allin, he gets a straight. 5 hands later, I have KK again, raise reraise, allin..... He called with K6 off, hits a 4 card flush. Dropped 600 that night. That guy was the devil. I did however take down a really big pot against him earlier in the week, so I ended up break even against him.

  13. This guy IS the devil!

    My friend and I were talking about him the other day and it is amazing how lucky he is. He would shove with horrible hole cards and win. Well even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile. Maybe he is the devil sent to harass us low limit no limit. I think the devil would have a sense of humor and be in a rascal motor scooter. If no one has ever seen "Jack" he looks like Mr. Potter in its a wonderful life.

    I wont be in Vegas for awhile and I was wondering if you could do me a favor? Can you disconnect his battery on his motorized chair for me next time you see him? :grin:

  14. @Check_Raise_Riz

    And neither of the places have 5/10 limit that were stated that way.

  15. @wlgolfpro

    I am sorry if I am inaccurate in my trip report. I played limit at these places. I don't know if the venetian or Bellagio it was 4-8 / 5 -10 / 6- 12 I don't think it really matters much. It was just low limit. Gheesh give a guy a break! :grin:

    My corrections were not so much for your benefit, but for anyone reading this that might get some bad information. Believe it or not, most limit players would say there is a significan difference between 4/8 adn 6/12. Again, was not trying to run down a very nice trip report. Thanks
