After dinner, watching Zarkana(great show---some amazing performances), and getting the family tucked into our Sky Suite
(very nice email offer about 2 months ago), wanted to try my luck
at Arias poker room. This is a very user friendly room. The front desk team was friendly, and efficient, and I had a seat in a 1-3 NL in about
15 minutes.
First hand, JJ, called an early position raiser, and two cold callers
for $10. Jxx flop, and the original raiser goes AI for ~$150.! Wow,
what a start. I ran hot, two other sets, nut flush, flopping 2 pair, from
the bb, and ran $200 to over 850 in about 3 hours. yes, i was hit hard on the head, but appreciated the good fortune.
Saturday night, we went to the Blue Man group. My 8 and 13 yr old
daughters actually liked this show the most. Very fast 90 minutes.
After the show, i went over the poker room, and played ~2 hours of
2-6 spread limit HE. This was a fun time. Mostly passive table, ~7-8/10 hands were not raised pre flop. So that allowed taking
late position liberties with 57o and Kx S. Both of those won nice pots
and I would not normally play them.
The 11pm tournament started with two tables--allowed "re-entry" and late entries. Sum total was 28 buyins. Nice mixture of players,
with a rather funny young lady: "i usually play $100/200 blind games" Right. And she did not play........very well. The structure
of $4000 chips, 20 minute blinds, and impatient players made for
some rapid chip stacking/chip variance. After ~100 minutes we
got down to 10 (the final table is the cut off for the only break---I think everyone wants this tournament over :). I was the second oldest at the table. My image was pretty nit-like. And I was able
to amass quite a few uncontested pots pre flop to chip up.
They only pay 3 spots. When we got down to to 6 handed, talk of
a chop started. The one older guy objected. Down to 5 and then 4.
Same guy said no deal.......and you can guess who went out 4th.
he muttered some unfriendly words my way when my AK nailed
his KJ. We last 3 quickly chopped and netted about $380 each.
Both poker rooms were well run. Happy dealers. Happy staff.
Mix of players was good. I a had a real nice run of cards over the
~10 hours i played.
The Aria double table had just switched to NL, so I missed out on
the Limit HE.
The Aria buffet just reopened this weekend. Excellent quality of
food. Not too good a deal with children getting no price break though.
