Great Cash Terrible Tournaments PH Part

On Friday I moved from the Wynn to Planet Hollywood due to EDC. I get to Planet Hollywood just after lunch and they want $15 to check-in early. I find it funny considering all of the Harrahs' fans about fees. I pay it because I want to get to my room. I thought about the WSOP 3PM daily but decided against it. Planet Hollywood must have been EDC central on the strip. More NEON than just about anywhere else. A complete 180 after spending 3 days at the Wynn. Anyway after a short break I go over to Bellagio and I end up playing 5-10 NL. It basically was a shorter wait than 2-5NL. I think I was a bit burned out after being in Vegas for a straight week. After 3 hours or so I lost $1,275 and had my worse session of the trip. The worse hand was when I had top 2 against a guy who had to run down his 10 high flush on the river. It was a strange play considering he had no pair, no straight draw. I went over to Gordan Ramsey's Burger. I thought it was very good but not for the price. You get better value at Burger Bar. I did have a beer so I decided to play some 1-2NL at PH after a quick nap. After 3 hours of playing and drinking I was down $200. I decided to take a break from playing and have a couple of drinks and then call it a night.

I slept in on Saturday and again took a pass of the WSOP daily tournament. I ended up going to eat lunch at Burger Bar at Mandalay Place. Great burger. I took a pass on playing at Mandalay. The room was pretty dead with just 2 games going. I walked over to MGM and just missed the new 2-5 NL game, so I got on the list and jumped into a new 1-2NL game. First hand was strange. I am in the small blind and it folds around and I ask the guy if he wants to chop. I did look at my cards and it was pocket QQ. I always chop if my neighbor wants to and I believe you should handle the same way every time. He claims not to understanding what chopping is and wants to play. I believe he was from Brazil. I raise, he re-raises. He had $200 in front of him. By the turn we had it all in and I lose to his KK. I tell him no chopping the rest of the day. I make about $50 of it back over the next 90 minutes. I finally get into the 2-5NL game and lose about $75 in the must move game. I get over to the main game and basically make about $25 of it back. Pretty uneventful session. Lost $200 in about 4-5 hours.
Yappy Dave and his dad got into town and they pick me up at MGM and we head over to TI.
TI was an interesting game. I didn't have a great session and my losses really were the result of one hand when I turned two pair and lost to a better 2 pair. I dropped $350 in that hand, and I lost $550 in the session. To make matter worse, Yappy goes on a heater and easily makes $1,700 although we really didn't have any real big hands against one another. I just didn't see much. He dropped me off at Aria and I played 2-5NL. I had another great Aria session. I made $1,450 in about 2.5 hours. The game had huge hand against huge hand time after time. One guy threw a chair after his AA got cracked against AQ. My best hand was when I flopped a straight with 65s. Flop was 7-4-3. Checked around since I was in the small blind. Turn is a queen, I check again. Big Blind bets $40. Next guy bets $125. It folds around to me and I bet $375. Big blinds folds, and that other guy takes his bet back. I am like put it in dude and he ends up just calling. River is a 6. He had $500 left so I went all-in and he tanked. He ended up folding his set of 7's after the clock was called by another player. He lost that $500 with a three way all-in flop when the 2 guys with AK lost to KK. I correctly got away from QQ against AA on a 10 high flop. Good feeling I only lost $100 in that hand (All pre-flop). I won another big pot with A-10 against another guy with A-9 on a A-8-7-9-J board, and then that same guy donks $500 against me when I have top 2 against his Queen high bluff. The session ended weird. The guy with the set of 7's rebuys with a $1,000 Bellagio chip. They toss me the chip and I give him $1,000 in smaller chips then I notice it was a Bellagio chip, then they wanted an id for the chip and I stated to get his id and he didn't want to give it up? Finally they got his id and they got it colored up. About that time I was ready to quit playing and met a co-worker who was in town playing $100 Blackjack hands at Aria. (I watched)

One day left.
Sunday- My flight was at night so I had time for more cash game action and I decided if it ain't broke don't fix it- 2 sessions at Aria, why not a third. I played 2-5NL at Aria. The game was much more laid back than the crazy game from the night before. It was still profitable when I turned top 2 in hand against two other players. I grinded out $600 in profit in about 4 hours and decided to call it.
I still had about 90 minutes left before I had to head to the airport so I went back to Planet Hollywood to play some 1-2NL. I made a quick $300 profit in that game.

Not bad when you drop $5K in buy-ins (And Brian Grayson was quick to point out what I sepnt on buy-ins when I talked to him on Thursday night) and and it all comes out pretty close to even. I will take it all things considered.

Great trip! Looking forward to my fall trip already.

  1. That's because God blessed me with the ability to add things up in my head pretty quickly! Another good report.

  2. Good trip report, did they ask the chair thrower to leave?

Oh and do you think Gordan Ramsey Burger Place would be a wise place to apply at as a server? I saw they were looking for new hires on two different job listings. I'm trying to find pick out the best places to apply at that are hiring.

We were in the tournament area and basically he was felted and left. The ironic thing about it was that maybe 5-6 hands before that he cracked an old guys Aces, and the old guy took it rather well, and he (old guy) was running bad at that time. It was like his 2-3 bad beat already.

Gordon Ransey's Burger is a pretty trendy place to work. I ate at the bar, but the the bartenders and servers seem younger. It would be a good place to work if you can get in. The place had quite the line for lunch one day.

The way I look at tournaments is you have to look at it over the long run and not just one summer. How do you do at the tournaments over 5-10 trips. I don't get to play a lot of tournaments any more. When I lived in California I played good tournaments pretty much every weekend if I wanted to. Here my only option is Louisiana and cash is king which is fine by me. I like the 2-5 NL game that they spread. It plays deep and plays right into my hand. It translated well for the most part in Vegas. I think you need to know where you have the best result and what type of place you do the best at.
The Wynn has been the one place over the past year in Vegas where I have gotten deep multiple times so I seem to have a good comfort level at that tournament.

Most places I've seen on the strip want 5 years experience serving, I have just over that. I think I'll head over with my resume. Again great report and thanks for the info!
