July 4th vacation, poker expo, and playing in the mix game

I left Orlando on July 3rd. I had a early am flight and I had to connect through Atlanta. I landed in Vegas only to have like 8 messages regarding my upcoming move. One was not good considering I had to sign some paper work and I would not be back in Orlando until Monday night (7th). To make matters worse- no bag when I went to backage claim. Well Delta had two flights from Atlanta to Vegas and my bag came in on the second flight (About 40 minutes after the first flight). Not a fun start to the trip. Cab line was extremely short and I went over to the Wynn, which has to be my favorite place to stay. I checked in and after handling those calls I made it to the poker room about 3-4 hours after I got into town:

Thursday (7/3):

Wynn- I sat down in a 2-5 NL game. The room was very busy for a mid Thursday afternoon. I could only play about 90 minues as I was going over to met Straybullets for dinner at n9ne. The session was good considering how short it was. I made a quick $150 profit, which was a great start to the trip considering I was not in the right state of mind to play good poker.

Palms: Took a cab to the Palms and kind of chilled out for an hour and met Mark (Straybullets) at n9ne. Great place to eat. Trendy, and I recomend it for a nice steak dinner. Easy on the eyes as well. Dinner was good and the conversation was great. Hopefully our paths will cross in Vegas again. After dinner I got a seat in a 1/2NL game. I also went on the 2/5 NL list. The sessions reminded me why I don't go out of my way to play in the room. My name was never called for the 2/5 NL game, yet players who came in after me got in the game. Players were yelling at the floor, dealers, other players. If you want a nice relaxing place to play this isn't it. After a 5+ hour session I ended up down $120. I took a cab back to the Wynn.

Net Profit- $30

Friday (7/4)-

I got up early considering how long of a day Thursday was.

Rio: I took a cab over to the Rio and sat in a 1/3 NL game to kill time. I ended up losing $140 in this short sessions. I lost $75 in the first hand with AK. It was a theme for the session, as I had AK like 4 times and could not get anything going.

Rio Poker Expo: The real reason I went over to the Rio was to met up with LV Michael and South Point Perry to walk around the poker expo (I guess you can call it a poker expo). The expo did have booths that seem to fit, but I'm willing to bet that out of the 73 booths, 2/3rds will not be at the expo in 3 years. There were some classic comments along the way regarding these booths. At least I found two poker books I end up buying, so it was good overall. After lunch LV Michael and I went over to TI to play alittle bit.

TI: After getting to TI, the room was very busy. We did get into a 1/3NL game right away. The game was extremely soft. I was up a quick $280 in less than a hour we played. A 2-5 list had started and the game got called. LVMichael and myself made he switch over to that game. We ended up playing in that game for the balance of the afternoon and I proceeded to give back the $280 I won in the 1/3 NL game. I just could not get anything going. The net for the rip to TI was a $20 loss.

Wynn: After taking a long nap (No fireworks to wake me up) I woke up before midnight and played 2-5 NL for about 3-4 hours. I had a great session. I hit trip 8's and stacked one player who had TPTK. It was a theme for the session. I made a nice $1,010 profit.

Friday Profit- $850

Trip- $880

Saturday:

Venetian: I went over to the Venetian and played in the NOON tournament ($550). It was horrible. I was not happy with my play at all. I got knocked out in the third level with AJ against AK. Flop was A,10,10 and I was extremely short.
After the tournament I played a little 2-5 NL, and was up for thebetter part of the session, but ended up losing one hand which caused me to have a losing session. I lost $120.

Harrahs After watch the NASCAR race back at the Wynn, I ended up going to Harrahs on Saturday night. I played a little 1/2 NL. Game was extremely soft. I made a quick $85 profit in like 45 minutes. Not much money on the table. I played in the 12:30am tournament (I wanted to work on a few things after my poor Venetian performance). 21 runners, I had one bounty, and got knocked out 8th, so I lost $100 for the tourny.

Saturday: Lost $690

Trip- $190 profit

Sunday:

I slept late and watch the Tennis final.

Planet Hollywood: I played in the 2pm tournament and got knocked out before the second break. No real hands stick out.

I walked pver to Paris and had the buffet. Very good. I put it right behind the Wynn and bellagio.

Ballys: I decided to sit in at play at Ballys (I never played in the room prior). I was trying to get into a 1/2NL game, but the list was too long, so I sat in a 3/6 Limit game. I had to kill some time before the mix game at Imperial Palace and it would be good to go into limit mode. The sesson was horrible and reminded me how I hate limit holdem. I flop a straight and get rivered when the board pairs on the river. I ended up down $150 for 90 minute session. I hope the mix game goes better.

Imperial Palace: I played in the mix game with the usual suspects (LV Michael, Poker muffin- cindy, Sabs, Straybullets, Eric, and a few other AVPers). Game was good to me. Mike, a floorman from the Rio bought in for a $1,000, and it created a lot of action. Omaha HL was a monster for me when I scooped two high hands with flushes with no qualifing low hands. Big pots. Then later when playing 4 card ocean pinneapple, I got involed in hand with LV Michael, we I had 2d,3d I actually turned a straight flush and the betting was heavy and actually stooped when on the ocean after LV Michael made his full house realized what I had. I made a $206 profit in the game. That was good but I must give props to Cindy who turned a $700 profit. Very nice night overall.

Sunday- down $24

Trip: Up $166 for my poker.

I'm already looking forward to my next trip.

I'm glad to have played in three new rooms this trip (IP, Ballys, and the Rio).

  1. Nice report, except it is sad that I remember your hand better then you do. You made your straight flush holding the 4d5d not the 2d3d. There was a 236 of diamonds on the board, and I made 9s full. That was an easy read. Nice hand, and nice report.

I would put Paris's buffet over Wynn. Wife and I ate ay the Wynn buffet on opening night, and we were not impressed. It may have gotten better since then, though.

Anyways, see you on your next trip!

  2. great report...it's always to turn a profit, even if it's just a small one.

The mixer is great fun, and has some sick pots for a 3/6 limit game.

Can't wait to see more clem reports once you move closer to mecca.

  3. LV Michael- I was drinking during the mixer. The mixer is for fun, so you have to take it at face value and have some fun.
