Let me start with saying I am posting this because I believe this site is outstanding and would like to do my small part to help it grow.Spent 2/17-2/24 at the Golden Nugget, downtown. My wife and I are tournament junkies. We played 15 tournaments from Sunday to Friday.
5 at the GN
6 at Binions
1 Venitian daily
2 Venitian Deep Stack(wed and Thurs)
1 Caesars daily
My wife cashes in about 10% of her tournies.I cash in 15-20%Let me preface by saying my wife and I are mega competitive with each other and our results.I need motivation often to play my best and she can often be the catylist for me upping my game.
The card rooms:
Golden Nugget:very nice room,a little cramped, some good players, many who believe they are good and enough novices,to get you half way home if you can avoid some bad turns of the gards against them.I don't drink and do any form of gambling(story for another time $5600 cup of coffee),but I always had a water, coffee or soda so service was good.My wife for some reason she couldn't put a finger on didn't like the staff.I thought they did a good job and were friendly enough.
Binions:Always well run tournies, good drink service, terrible restrooms. Most of the staff started during the gold rush I think.A little remodeling being done(cheaply).Similar mix of players as Golden Nugget.
Ceasars:Much improved, since I played there last year during WSOP.Friendlier, like the touch of decorating.Wish they would add a few levels to structure, especially between levels 2 and 3 when the cost jumps from $150 per round to $525 per round, which with an average stack is an m of only 10.Gotta be able to go after blind and antes at this level.
Venitian:Well run all around. They weren't prepared however to issue players cards which are required for tournament entry.Line was long and slow.
I came in 4th in first tournament, the 11:00 am Sunday morning,4 tables. My wife was next to cash in the Tuesday night tournament at the Venitian. She came in third and nursed a short stack nicely to flnish 3rd.While I waited for her to finish,I played in a 1-2 nl game and did ok,no major confrontations, came away ahead $210.Besides this cash game session I played 2 others at the GN winning $165 and losing $150 for a net positive of + $225 in cash games.
After her third and having to listen to my wifes trash talk about her 3rd place finish,I now had to out finish her and went on a bit of a tear starting with a second in the GN wed am tourny.Which was a higher placing, but I still had collected only $900 compared to her $1400.Wed night I won the caesars 7:00 tourny to put an end to her reign.Collected 2745 in a chop, but I had a 40000 chip lead.An interesting thing happenned at the final table.I proposed that we take money out of 1st and 2nd to pay 7 thru 9 their entry fees back.all agreed but 1(the chip leader)I was lucky enough to take him out 8th and paid the 7th place finisher out of my pocket.Everyone than agreed to reimburse me out of 1st place money. This happened again at the Binions tournament Thursday night .One fellow wouldn't agree to put all the final table participants in the money. Now don't get me wrong, when they are payind 4 or 5 places I wouldn't do it either, but when 8 of 10 or 7 of 9 are getting paid, why not,it speeds up play and after playing 5 to 8 hours with blinds making it a crapshoot even with the best structures in daily tounaments it is worth it to get them out fast.
Final day had a third at GN 3:00 tournament.Should have probably cashed in the 11:00 am,but made an error by not raising enough on a blind steal with blinds at 1000/2000 I made it 5000 to go from utg with A-10 suited.Everyone folded to the BB who called with 79s.the flop was 962,he checked i bet he called.turn gave me flush draw and 2 overs.he bet out,I raised him all in since we were both committed after his bet and I missed the draw and went from chip leader to short stack by #1 playing a hand with the only stack that could hurt me and 2 by not making it 6000 or 7000 to go preflop, which I believe he would have folded to.
In both Venitian deep stack events with a 10 high flop. I played,I got knocked out the same way,had my opponent dominated all- in once with a set vs. top pair and once a-10 vs k-10 with a 10 high board. Both hit runner runner flushes.Thats poker!
End results:
Cash + $225
Tournaments + $2180
Blackjack -$800
Slots - $4000
What a DONKEY I am.Just play poker stupid.
Will be back 3/31-4/6.No more slots.

  1. Great Report. Congrats on the win at Ceasers. I will be in Vegas for two days in a few weeks and hope to play in the Caesers and Sahara tournies.

    -$4000 in slots....ouch! :scream:

  2. where did you take the beating on the slots at? Harrahs properties? Just curious. I think Harrahs has the tightest slots of them all.

  3. Nice TR, just curious how many total hours you spent at the tables in that week? Impressive results and congrats on the win

  4. Slots suck!!!!

  5. Sounds like a great time. thanks for sharing.

  6. Most of the slot losses were at the Golden Nugget.I swore this trip I would stick to ring games when not in a tournament, but I guess I still need some no brainer action.Next trip I will play more than 3 cash sessions and further reduce my exposure to these other games. My poker results on my 2 or 4 trips to Vegas each year are very good. The losses always come from the other forms of gambling.
    I did also hit the hotball at Bingo,lol,for $838 + $240,so I am thinking of a Bingo career,lol.
I attribute my new poker record keeping to this site,as I wanted to be accurate in my trip report. For that I thank the members of this site.I think this new visibility into my poker play will reduce my exposure and eventual ellimination of my playing BJ,slots, etc. But not Bingo
