Too much action for a fish like me-and I mean ACTION

Played this weekend at Palace Station, Wynn, and Harrah's. Flew in late Friday night and stayed at Palace Station, then starting playing 2-4 from 11:00 PM-1:30 in the morning. I normally stay at Green Valley Ranch and get comped there, but my dad had free rooms at Palace Station, so I decided to go with him (he was in a slot tournament there) and try the poker room there. The room is kind of old and dingy and full of grizzled locals who are like rocks. It felt like a tired old poker room, but the dealers and mgt. were pretty nice. I think I won $60 the first night. Went to bed very tired.
Woke up at 6:00 AM and was still tired but decided to mosey on down to the poker room and play...but only one table of 4-8 was going, so played...and it was super tight, no action whatsoever, and very boring for like 6 hours. Lost my winnings.

Then I went over to the Wynn in the afternoon. Yes, everything you read from the other reviews is right on. This place is like heaven. Played 4-8 and won about $90 in two hours (was staying afloat until the last two hands I got pocket aces and rocked the table). Yes...the waitresses are all blonde and beautiful, the seats are comfortable, the ambience is gentle and classy, the dealers are real good...everything was high tone. The only downside I would like to report is the wait list. I had to get a pager and wait like an hour, and you have to give them $100 in cash as a deposit so they make sure you return it.

Then I went to Harrah's after eating at the buffet at Wynn (dad got it comped!) and played 3-6 and lost all my winnings again. Returned to Palace Station and went to sleep around 10:30 PM The next morning, I woke up bright and early at 6:00 AM and sure enough, the same locals were sitting at the lone 4-8 limit table. But this time things were quite different. I sat down with my $100 buy-in expecting yesterday's grind it out slug fest, and what do I find? I'm the only tourist (fish), 4 locals, and 5 poker dealers (who work at Palace Station) are playing FULL TILT POKER. I can hardly describe the ACTION! I have been playing poker since Sept of last year, so I'm still learning and play a conservative, tight aggressive 2-4, low limit style. Ok...then I sit down with the sharks and I was literally shivering. They raised it up to the cap on every single hand. Even on the 6-12 half kill, they raised it to the cap! It was insane! I think I only saw 2 flops during the first 2 hours. The average pot size was $90-$120 and there were a couple of crazy players who kept raising it up, without even looking at their cards. I think they were frustrated after losing several hundred dollars and playing all night.

Anyway, I'll get down to my memorable hand...I pick up pocket Ks-Kh and raise it up to the cap. Three players are in and we are raising each other to the max...flop comes 8s-3s-Js..and we continue raising until it's me against this jerk who always raised it up to the cap on every hand. The turn is a 7h He announces to me that I better be careful...and he shows me one card...the Ace of spades...so if another spade comes it's all over baby. My hands were shaking. He was laughing at me so I raised him one last time...and on the river, a 10 clubs appears. My pocket kings held up and slammed the cards on to the table and watched him crumble. All he had was a pair of 7's and nut flush draw. It was like David slaying Goliath. Came home for the entire trip down $80, but it was definitely the most entertaining trip ever.

Tip...Harrah's has really good high hand jackpots. Every royal flush (per suit), straight flush (King high down to 3 high I think), and every 4 of a kind has their own separate high hand jackpot. The jackpots ranged from $40-$600. The guy sitting next to me got 4 Kings and won $330.

Recommendation: Palace Station is full of sharks and is old and dingy. Harrah's is a mixture, but the atmosphere is kind weird in there (the room used to the sports book and doesn't feel like a poker room. The Wynn is one of the best in all categories. My two favorite poker rooms are Green Valley and Wynn. Have fun and stay away from the 4-8 limit table on Sunday mornings at Palace Station, unless you enjoy full tilt action.
