The Drop

I play low to medium limit poker for pleasure. In the casino card rooms the drop is $4.00 or more and some add a dollar for bad beats. This amount of money makes it impossible to win over the long run.

Are there any better card rooms in the Vegas area that give you a better break? For instance, a couple of years ago The Venetian cut the drop on limit Omaha to $2.00. The Wynn offered special bonuses for a while.

  1. I remember Monte Carlo had cut their rake to $2 for a while but don't hold me to that without calling them first. Venetian is a little better about not taking so much until pots reach certain levels. $4 is a pretty standard rate right now though.

  2. @StripMan I have no played on line but I understand the drop is less. Is that true? Thanks

  3. @StripMan Typo error. Should have been not.

Caesars Palace and Luxor have $3 max rake on limit games. Palms has $3 max rake on all games. MGM has $2 rake (and $2 promo drop) on their 2-6 spread limit game.

The trouble with low rake offers like that is, it is typically done by rooms that don't get much limit action. That's why they do it, but even so, limit games don't always run at them.

  5. @Rob Thanks for the info. It is certainly helpful. I realize most young players have a fantasy about WSOP thus they play no limit in greater numbers. Coming from California I had to quit playing as flop and drop made winning, in the long run, impossible.
