Jet-Lag strikes again...(long)
Flew in on the red eye from Honolulu which landed on the 28th at about 7:00AM or so. Couldn't sleep a wink on the plane due to crying babies and lack of a comfortable seat...in all fairness I don't sleep well on planes in most conditions but this was bad even for me. I should have known that I was destined for failure when I wasn't stoked on being in Vegas too much after being in Hawaii with friends for 5 days.
So I catch a cab to Excalibur and meet up with my brother at our room. He's already been playing for about 2 days and is very acclimated already. It was his first trip to Vegas after turning 21 so he was pretty pumped. He stays up all night playing to wait for me so we decide to go hit up Ceasars for the 9Am $65. This was the first time I'd actually played in Vegas so I was a bit nervous but got comfortable very quick. I pick up jacks OTB on the first deal and take down the pot preflop. This was easily the best hand I saw until after the break. Two Aggro donks were seated to my left and I couldn't get a piece of them due to my crappy cards but oh well. After break I'm pretty short stacked and get to the point that I have to push with Kdxd and somehow miracle river a flush to double up. My image till that point was so tight that I was getting comments on it and in the next two hands I find AA and call an all in to double up once again. Now people are just enthralled with my luck and I'm in fine position to make the money. It was then that I made my first real mistake when I had 1010 and knew the other guy had a better over pair but couldn't make the fold to go down to about 10 big blinds or so. I get aggressive and raise on the button with 3c4c and flop bottom two against a caller who goes all in after the flop to my delight. Double up again and then three hands later I get 88 and raise it from mp to about 3bb and get reraised. I push hoping for a race and I get it but lose when he flops a set. Out in 6th out of about 19 I believe. This was easily the most fun I had the entire trip as I was awake and actually thinking, dealers and management at Ceasars are great and I will definitely return.
Went back to the hotel to sleep it off a bit and did that till about 5 that night. Go get some panda express (all the fine dining happened in Hawaii) and come back ready to play. I convince my friend to come watch the NBA playoffs from Harrah's poker room since they have the big screen and we head down at half time. Buy into a 2/4 game for 100 and screw around and drink for about 4 hours or so. I end up leaving up 5 bucks after paying off quads twice...real glad this wasn't a real game where that kind of luck will kill your trip...more on that to come.
I'm pretty buzzed at this point and looking for my brother who wanted to play at MGM that night so once he wakes up I go meet him down there and buy into another 2/4 game. I start drinking again and play a ton of hands. Lots of tight 30+ who would fold to cbets on the turn constantly. Leave up about 16 bucks or so but also up a few beers as well. I'm jet lagged like crazy again so I go to sleep.
The next day we just mess around a bunch and go to the pool until later when I buy in to the 2/4 game at the excalibur for 100. This time the 2/4 game plays like it normally does with me paying off straights and two pairs which always fill on the river...ugh...but such is life. I leave down 40 bucks or so.
The next night we go play at the Mirage and my brother bankrolls me for the 1/2 game which I was really excited to play in (first real game since the tourney). Of course I sit next to a guy with 1400 or so in front of him and go completely card dead. I swing around for about 4 hours or so till I'm dead tired but just waiting to get my money in good so I can leave either felted or about even. Lose about 50 to a nut flush vs my J-high flush then get my money in when I hit top pair on the flop and had solid reads on the other two. get both to call and the guy to my right runner runners broadway. I say "Show me the ace..." and he does to send me packing all the way back to excalibur (stupid train closes at 2am on weeknights).
Next and last day I buy into excalibur 2/4 and screw around for a bit ending up about 40 bucks or so but just really wanting to be out of Vegas and home in my bed. We then cab it to the airport and I get my wish around midnight that night.
Overall a pretty fun trip, but one that would have benefited from not being jet lagged from another vacation and also having a bankroll to play 1/2 would have been very nice. But oh well...there's always next time.
