October Poker in Vegas 9-13

Spent 5 days in vegas, oct 9-13. Left Boston with three friends and got to the V around 12. We had booked a Rialto suite, with plans to use the poker rate. Had a little wait at check-in due to a "smoking" suite not being available. I attempted a $20 trick, looking to get a Rialto with a view. The first clerk happily took the cash, said she would see. When I actually got checked in the clerk (different one) said "no view." He was right. The suite was nice. We got it for three people, but only two ended up staying there. The TV in the bathroom was nice. It has a really awesome foyer, if you are in to foyers. Anyways:

Played 4-8 @ the V. played for 5 hours, I couldn't get anything going. lost $300. One of my poker buddies played 4-8 about 30 hours and turned a pretty good profit.
1-2 @ the V was much better. Played three sessions ( total of 9 hours) up about $400. Dealers were good, drinks were coming fast. I played pretty tight and still got paid off.

Went down to Bally's with theturtle99 after a day of drinking. We both got on the same 1-2 table right away. right away, I could tell I liked this table. I watched a young guy spew about $800 in less than an hour. My buddy headed up to his room at ballys, while I tried to fight the "must sleep immediately" signals from my brain. I finally gave in down $100. I would have loved to play longer here. Seems like there is loose money to be collected here.

I played the monday night $85 tourney at Caesars. It got 57 runners. I didn't see anything anywhere about rebuys, but I'm positive a few people who got knocked out were back at the table shortly thereafter. Maybe before the first break?? anyways, I was catching cards and making good value bets. I doubled my stack before the first break. Took a big blow when my KK lost to QQ on the river after getting it all in on the flop. Survived to the final table. I was about 6th in chips. Seven spots got paid, we agreed to give $10 each to 8th. When it got down to five, I had sucked out hitting runner-runner to triple up. I was either 1st or 2nd in chips at this point. No other chop talk. I finished third in my first Vegas tourney. $480 for third.

The last room I played at was Aria. I hadn't been in this casino before but I was quickly impressed. I just liked the feel of the place. Three of us got into 1-2. Marissa took care of us. Third hand in(i bought $300), UTG limps, +1 raised to $12. I look at aces, and make it $50. Folds around to +1 who says "i really wanted to see a flop with this hand", pauses, then calls. flop comes Kh 4c Qh. He checks, I look at his stack, he has me covered, I bet $80, he shoves, I call hoping to NOT see KQ. I flip my aces, he doesn't show. Turn and River are both Hearts. He pauses and mucks AKs face up. Played TAG for the next three hours while pounding Captain and Coke. The drinks were coming fast and furious from a service area right next to the poker room.

The leaks that I identified were the following: Blackjack, Craps, Let it ride and Sapphires. I played less table games than I ever had, but still donked money to the casino. We went to Sapphires after all cleaning up at Aria. We called for the limo to avoid the cover. I tried to sit down, but was hustled off to the bar by a cute little thing while my two friends sat down with some beauties themselves. Suffice to say, a hooker would have been cheaper. Still, Vegas stripclubbing is my heroin.

Food: ate at hash house twice. I made a glutton of myself by eating a snickers pancake and the corned beef breakfast. It was delicious. The second trip was a burger that I used a knife and fork on.

Nora's - good food, off strip. crazy alfredo was good.

Oyster bar in miracle mile - Expensive, but good. the Scotto (lobster tail, filet, and crab legs) was delicious. Stay away from the wasabi horseradish.

Del Frisco's Double Eagle- best meals that I've had. been here twice, service in unbeatable. very reasonable prices. 5 people with apps and drinks came in around $100 each with tip.

perhaps expensive dining is a leak too??

Went to Pawnstars with theturtle99. He had a poker chip from the Playboy Club London that he wanted to bring in, more for the experience than to sell for a profit. Anyways, it took about 15 minutes to get through the line. I was disappointed once inside. The place is pretty small and we were ushered up one side and down the other. We did see Rick and the Old Man. my buddy didn't sell the chip, as the chip expert could only offer $15-$20.

Lastly, we were going to Caesars after dinner and listening to the MNF game(jets vs Vikings)in the cab. Being a Patriots fan, it killed me to bet and root for the Jets, but listening to Favre make me money by throwing a pick 6 like only he can do turned my trip around. Usually that is the kind of game I lose.

did get charged the poker rate for the Rialto suite. Had to pay the upgrade difference between that and a Bella suite.
2 hour delay at airport going home. oh well, can't win em all. be back in March. thanks for reading.

  1. sounds like a fun trip. I always enjoy reading the trip reports to get some ideas for my future trips. I had never heard of Del Frisco's Double Eagle. I checked out their website and this place looks tasty.
It also looks like a short cab ride from the V as well.
