02/22/2005: Today is Washington's Birthday; which happens to be mine as well ha ha! I turn 33 today--which sucks! I celebrated by going' the the Excalibur with my younger bros. Alex. We played the 1-3 spread (only a single $1 blind) for 4hr 15mins. I lost $12. But I did receive a $4 food comp...he he. I only tipped $4 for alcohol and to the dealer for the only 2 pots I won. 1st pot I won I was dealt AA in da hole. 2nd pot I won I limped in with 22 and flopped a Set. I was in early position, with 3 other limpers; so I bet out only $1 and was immediately raised to $3. The other 2 limpers quickly fold-I re-raised it to $6. This calling station paid me off to the river and he asked if I had AA (for the 3rd time; because I played extremely tight!)...I showed him my pair of 2z. I believe he had 2pair at showdown. My brother was actually up $45 at the other table; but suffered bad river beats. After tipping...he was only stuck minus $5. So my brother outplayed me...oops! Conclusion: Excalibur was an awesome experience! Pros: Free buffet line (I ate 2 chili dogs)! The Excalibur poker room is basically a converted Sports book. The players are Fish! But these fish can get so lucky offline just as frequently as online! I've seen AA cracked by Q3 and K2!! I've seen K3,A7offsuit, and J4 get paid off! So bad beats don't just happen online! You heard it here 1st folks! The Excalibur Experience: It was cool to watch basketball on the Big Screen and watch Phil Ivey win at the Turning stone on the other! The dealers, cocktail waitress and everyone in general were extremely courteous and fast! Cons - I didn't like the 1-3 spread limit very much at all! Why? Because you can't win very much when you do hit your Nuts...but at least you can't lose much neither. I did like the single $1 blind structure; but didn't like the fact that you can raise it up to $4 just to see the flop! This pretty much kills the correct pot odds to see the flop! I actually folded AK, KJ, 77, AT because of these preflop $3 raises. I am not willing to pay $4 if I'm even holding AK offsuit...I'm sorry! Despite me playing so tight (25%)...I only folded the Nuts once. Another mishap is that we signed up at Luxor for a player's club card...which does not work in their cardrooms ! The Station Casinos are diffrent; you earn $1.35 for every hour you play in their pokerrooms! But at least Excalibur has a free buffet line right in the pokerroom! Yes! Me and my bros. did inspect the Luxor poker room...and the Luxor does in fact have $1/$2 limit...Wow! Now that sounds like a bargain! I'll give you guyz a Luxor review next time! Peace!
