I’ve been playing at 52 Pickup Social Club in Caddo Mills for several months now, and honestly, it’s become one of my favorite places to play poker in Texas. I’ve played in a lot of card rooms over the years, from large casino-style rooms to smaller local clubs, and this place has something a lot of bigger rooms are missing now — personality.

The first thing you notice when you walk in is the atmosphere. It doesn’t feel stiff or intimidating. Nobody is acting like they’re on a televised final table. The room has a relaxed, friendly feel to it, and that makes a huge difference whether you’re there to grind cash, play tournaments, or just enjoy a night out playing cards.

The crowd is a good mix of people too. You’ve got experienced players, recreational players, blue-collar working folks, veterans, bikers, and regulars that all seem to get along well. It’s competitive poker, but people still treat each other with respect. That’s getting harder to find these days.

A big reason the room runs as well as it does is Daniel, the manager. If you’ve been there, you know exactly who I’m talking about. British accent, always moving around the room, always talking to players, and constantly trying to improve things. He’s one of the most approachable poker room managers I’ve dealt with anywhere.

What stands out about Daniel is that he genuinely cares about the room and the players in it. He remembers people by name, checks on tables, handles problems calmly, and keeps games moving without making the place feel uptight. He also plays himself, which honestly helps because he understands the player side of things too.

I’ve watched him deal with disagreements at tables, and he handles them professionally without turning situations into drama. That matters. A poker room only works long term if players trust management to be fair and protect the integrity of the games, and I think 52 Pickup does a good job of that.

The dealers deserve credit too. The dealers here are solid. They’re professional, friendly, and they keep the game moving. You can tell most of them actually care about doing a good job instead of just punching a clock. The action stays moving, and the games don’t drag the way they do in some rooms.

The cash games have been great in my experience. I’ve done very well there personally and have won multiple tournaments at the club. The action is usually good because the room has a more relaxed environment than some of the bigger poker rooms around Dallas. Players seem more comfortable, which usually makes for better games overall.

The tournaments are also run well. Structures have been fair, payouts have been smooth, and everything generally feels organized without feeling overly corporate. You can tell the room is trying to create an actual poker community instead of just packing bodies into seats.

Another thing I appreciate is how easy the place is compared to larger rooms. Parking is simple. Getting in and out is easy. The room feels safe. You’re not dealing with giant crowds, long walks, chaos, or the nonsense you sometimes get at larger poker rooms late at night.

Now to be fair, because it’s a smaller room, there are times when turnout can be lighter and sometimes you may wait a little for a cash game to get started. That’s probably the only real downside I’ve seen. But personally, I’ll take that tradeoff all day for the kind of atmosphere this place has.

Some bigger rooms may have more tables running, but they also feel cold and impersonal. At 52 Pickup, people know each other. Staff talks to players. Management is visible. It feels more like an actual social club instead of a poker factory.

As a veteran myself, I also appreciate the environment there. It’s welcoming without trying too hard. Nobody’s pretending to be something they’re not. Just good people, good conversation, and good poker.

That’s probably the best way I can describe the place overall. It feels authentic.

If you’re looking for a smaller poker room with a friendlier atmosphere, professional dealers, good cash games, solid tournaments, and management that actually cares about the players, I’d absolutely recommend checking out 52 Pickup Social Club.

Good rooms are hard to find nowadays. This is one of them.
