After GCC took over the WEG they totally disappeared the already est Electronic Hold-em Room. It vanished & got replaced with Slots! So these Executives decided to destroy a Room (the only one) legally running for likely the previous five years with success! They were building a Billion Dollar Expansion to their present Facility . Rather than construct a brand new Live Poker Room, one that should have been allowed twenty years prior upon their opening in 1996-97 they chose a complete other direction.
It was decided the Live Poker Room would be constructed inside an older section of the Upstairs Racetrack Grandstand. So I recently took the Elevator upstairs to have a look. It was a complete Horror Show. They failed to even put a new coat of paint on the walls. The carpet was old , & dirty, just plain POS ! The Bar setup was the size of the washroom located inside a bachelor apartment. This was meant to service a room filled with 300 people?
My God, zero thought directed towards what should be a very profitable Poker Room ,disgusting.
I inquired about the Rake, was astonished at the $ level, & figured they had made a mistake & discounted the # I was told. How they have not figured out the normal model of an Hourly session fee is the real mystery. I would say a 10-15$ hrly session fee for a 1/3 table would be fair , or 7.50 $ each 1/2 hour. The Room is a complete joke. The promise of good paying jobs ect when this gaming expansion was introduced is totally destroyed considering it was/is the Poker Dealers ( the professional ones) who would normally be the highest paid Casino Game Dealers/Workers. How Dealers do not get to earn their own tips for their time dealing is the Mystery. Since Poker has been the most neglected Table game at every Land Based Casino Facility across Ontario it is not hard to understand how this is the case! Players may as well stay home & play Online @ any Room except one connected to the OLG. Good Luck !!
