I have been reading all the comments and videos about this poker room before finally making a trip to check it out. After the closure of the original poker room in Casino Rama, where I played and built my bankroll, I was still glad Casino Niagara kept their $7 half hour session fee which remained the same for quite a while. That was my go to place on long weekends when the Americans would come over to play. The electronic poker tables casino Woodbine had long before were terrible.
The new poker room at this place is quite nice. Located away from the main floor is good. The size is good. Getting no comps on your player card and no free soft drinks is terrible.
$20 rake is not beatable in the long run, unless you are playing high stakes.
The stinger was after winning the pot, having them cut out $20 rake then tipping a $1 to the dealer and not even get a half @#$% attempt for a thank you is atrocious.
I stopped tipping after that.
The offset to this is the player pool. Hate to stereotype, but with over 25 yrs. exp. playing I can tell you having a table of Asian and South Asian players is worth the while. They LOVE to gamble and chase their loses.
Also allowing a straddle to make a bigger pot helps offset the rake.
All I had to do was watch these guys straddle, raise and call down with draws and middle pairs to make a 1-3 pot over $800 on average when I waited for a premium and hit the flop hard to cash in.
I bought in the $100 min. and waited 4 hours. to play 3 pots to cash out $1100.
Alligator blood, being a nit and hammering draws gets you the money here.
