The "poker room" / glorified hallway opens at noon, but the casino itself opens at 8AM. So when you see a 1PM tournament (9-handed and limited to 8 tables) already starting an alternate list at noon, it's because they are actively discouraging outsiders from playing the first 5 levels of the tournament and giving the locals a huge advantage. Yes, registration for a 1 PM tournament begins as early as 8 AM and a single person can register for a bunch of non-present people. The regulars work as teams, actively flashing others (who are STILL in the hand) their hole cards as they fold and signaling to each other the strength of their hands. New Hampshire is a friendly state to play poker, but perhaps too friendly as it promotes open and uncontested collusion. Don't be fooled by the 30-minute level structure. When there are NO automatic shufflers, when you arrive on time but are forced to wait 2 hours after the tournament has begun to get your seat (because the TD refuses to open up more tables even when week after week the turnout has been 100+; screenshots of clock are posted on the NH poker FB group), and when you are playing against a team like the AC scene in Rounders, it is a turbo tournament at best with a terrible structure. Odds are you will simply be donating your buy-in to the final table of regulars who chop week after week.
