Oceanview Casino is a small, local card room in downtown Santa Cruz, which has 4 poker tables and 1 blackjack table. The floor people are friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable, and the dealers are all very well trained and friendly as well.
Their tournaments run on Saturday & Sunday at 3:30 pm, and Tuesdays at 5pm, usually with cash games that run after. While this card room isn't licensed for no-limit, they do have a very active $3-100 spread limit cash game (max buyin $500), and on Fridays they have a $5-200 spread limit cash game (max buyin $1000) that is very good. Rake is $6 per hand, with a $1 drop when no flop.
The locals are always friendly, and the games are soft. Highly recommend!
Only downside is that they are not set up for offering food and drinks. Coffee, water, tea, and hot chocolate are available, but that's it. You are allowed to bring in outside food and eat inside - which is very common, however alcohol is not allowed in the casino.
