I arrived a little before 11am and they got a $2-5 game going within 15 minutes. The play was tight for the first 20 minutes before people got to know one another enough to blast the pot. I had played all week in the Miami area and was surprised when the dealer wouldn't allow us to chop. Whether we played or not the house was hellbent on taking $2 for the rake. What leaches.
The renovation of the Poker Room here is so recent that even regular players were commenting on it, though a few were ridiculing the color selections. I assume they also meant to replace their chips but their timing was certainly off because these were worst chips I have seen in any casino poker room. They were so faded that it was hard to make out the difference between white and red and green for any kind of distance. Only the under- circulated black chips posed no problem. It must be a nightmare for the dealers. I typically take home a souvenir chip at all the places I play, but I didn't bother here. I would have to use a Sharpy on the thing to remember where it came from.
A German gentleman and I got all of our chips in preflop and we both had pocket Jacks. The result was the house took $5 for the rake and $2 for the high hand bonus and neither of us had a thing to show for it. This is probably the same rule at most places, but on the heals of the chop denial of the chop it was enough to make me leave. I have toyed with the idea of coming down for one of the WSOP circuit events, but I don't know if I will. This just isn't a place that is considerate of the players.
