I am the Executive Director for Homeless Heroes a Veteran non-profit in Amarillo.
We have recently purchased the Old Astro Motel directly across the street from the Amarillo VA and we are reconfiguring it into an HUD compliant permenant supported housing community for Homeless Veterans.
I approached management with a fundraising tournament idea and they embraced it full force.
They gave us fair pricing.
Took full control of everything Poker related and were the perfect partner for our event.
The ownership are a Veteran family and were amazingly generous with our players, their time and enthusiasm.
They let us bring food and BYOB in.
Let us promote the event on social media and sell our event shirts at the venue.
Could not have asked for a better experience or host venue.
We were super happy with the turnout for the coldest evening of the year and would love to do another tournament or make it a very regular monthly or bi/monthly event for us and them. Their players that joined ours were extremely welcoming.
We also did some prop stuff. Like a last man standing pool and door prizes.
We paid out top 5 spots to a total of about $3500 and our non-profit made about the same after expenses.
We couldn't have been happier.
They have daily tournaments.
A suprer hot cash game, run great events and the entire staff and dealers know you by your first name every time.
Looking forward to doing it again
